First real post on here but, looking for input on size of tractor for small cattle operation10-15 head. Looking at used tractors and have the funds to buy a NH2310 or a NHT2420. The 2310 only has 362 hrs and the T2420 has 1300hrs. I have not seen the tractors in person yet and hours don't scare me much on the 2420. Just wondering if i really need the 2420. Im not making hay just buying and moving round bales. and working on pasture renovation. I'm only working 25 ac at this time so getting into tight areas are a priority. I just dont want to under or over buy but want to be able to keep this tractor for a long time!
I know this is a open ended question I could make a ford 3000 work if i needed to. buy just anyone with these tractor Id like to hear from you.

Thanks,

A 60 to 70 hp tractor will do most everything you want to do. the bigger the tractor the bigger the implement and the quicker the work gets done. Small utility size tractors hold their resale value very well and if you get to where you are under powered you could always buy another. and for what its worth a utility with a loader is better than 5 thumbs on your right hand

If your just moving bales and light bushhogging I would recommend the smaller tractor with lower hours. You will get a lot of use out of that tractor before you reach the hours that's already on the 2420. Just my :2cents:

Both good logic I do feel the 2310 would be enough for now and later if operations expands I could move up. Just wanna stay within my means and I feel blessed I can buy this tractor and not have payments. Ill let you know what tom. brings. I'm taking the day off to go finalize the deal on either one.

+1. Often you can buy twice the tractor for the same money as the smaller tractor. Then you will have something that is capable of tasks like handling round bales with safety and reliability

The models are the same as a TC40 and a TC55, I did not go to dealer today but money is worked out. All are good points John SD you are very right! both of these tractors are within 1000 dollars of each other. I think that is what makes tractor shopping so hard the prices dont always follow the size you can pay and i at least find myself questioning well for the same money i could have 60hp but do i need 60 hp? this dealer is a few hours away so i will leave out in the morning.

A bigger tractor can easily perform most jobs that a smaller tractor can handle. A smaller tractor might not be able to perform a job requires a bigger tractor. Or if it can perform the job, is subject to more wear and tear.

I suspect fuel usage difference is negligable between a smaller tractor pulling at full throttle vs a bigger tractor loafing along at high idle doing the same job

I brought home the T2310 which is the TC40 NH. great tractor looks to be pretty well maintained. I got them to throw in filters which is a nice perk. I look forward to many many years of good service! The tractor has fluid filled rears and one remote out back. Thank you all for your input.
