Listening to them you would think Irene is a bad storm this is a wimp as hurricanes go.
If they had a Camille, Carla or Beulah they would be crapping on themself.
All hurricanes are bad but as hurricanes go if you have to get one this would be a better one to have.
When a hurricane breaks 30 on the Hurricane Severty Index you have a storm. The old Cat rating is worthless as you can have a Cat 3 100 miles wide or 500 miles wide. The HSI takes in area covered by hurricane force winds, storm surge and max winds. Irene came in on the scale at a 24 and it is a fast moving storm which is good as well.
The storm surge is the real danger followed by the tornadoes.
Hope everyone stays safe and dry this will pass.

Anyone heard or seen anything of Workinonit Farm or Kenny?
Hope ya'll are hunkered down and safe may God bless.

What makes this one worse is because it's gonna hit the power mongers in DC and ny. They're the ones that are telling us how bad it will be. Too bad they couldn;t have as good of a grasp on the economy

Right or wrong, any time a storm like this hits highly populated areas its gonna get a lot of coverage. More people will be affected and more damage will be done than a bigger storm hitting a sparsely populated area.

This is where you and I disagree it is just like sports coverage all you ever here about is east or west coast teams.
It is about ratings and not reporting the truth. Seen that in Katrina coverage versus almost nothing on Ike which hit a much more populated area.
The animals in New Orleans were the news looting big screen tv's in ass deep water to take back to thier crib with no power for months. If the corrupt La. politicans which can only be rivaled by Chicago had been spending the money on levee maintainence and pump sytems that storm wouldn't have been near the issue it was.
Ike resulted in the largest search and rescue in US history on large part to a bunch of nuts thinking they were tough enough to ride it out. This is where the old cat rating system got them in trouble. Ike wasn't packing a lot of wind for a hurricane, but hurricane winds extended out over 275 miles which is huge. I forget the HSI rating 30 or 32 when a storm gets to 30 you better pay attention big time. Ike didn't effect us much more than evacuee's, it went right up the I -45 corridor from Galveston to Dallas. Last tally I read nearly 30 people were still missing from Ike. That was one strange Hurricane as far as reporting went almost like a news black out. I seen first hand the damage after Ike total destruction only rivaled by Carla. The difference when Carla hit in 61, I bet they would have had trouble scrapping up a million people in all the coastal counties. When Ike hit the Texas coast is cities and suburbs from the coast to a 100 miles inland the area now contains 6 million people. I wouldn't believe the first word on the dead and missing total from Ike.

I guess this hurricane will be Bush's fault as well.

"I guess this hurricane will be Bush's fault too."

Well, you know the earthquake up in northern VA and DC area was blamed on Bush. The newly discovered fault line in the region is named "Bush's Fault"

I see your point. The east and west coasts are definitely the centers of the universe as far as media coverage. Heck, as a baseball fan I get to see the Red Sox and Yankees pretty much every dam week it seems. :bang: I know what it's like to lose everything and have to start from scratch. Twice. But you can keep your hurricanes. I don't want any part of one of those.

I like that. :lol2:

Actually, Irene is partly Bush's fault, you know. If our current president hadn't had to spend so much time and energy cleaning up the mess W left, he would have probably come up with a way to prevent hurricanes by now, him being the second coming and all. ;-)

They would have to actually do something productive then.
On the other hand...maybe the most productive thing they could do for us would be to go home and not do anything at all....Yup...I think that's the best thing they could do for the economy...go home and stop spending money they (we) don't have.

Would have been a snap if he had algore to invent it for him

I survived carla CB. Head on. Irene does not come close.

All these folks here lost their houses, barns, trees, fences - everything to wild fire. They had nothing left but ground and it is dry and blowing away. Not much media coverage of it. Maybe they should have just got a few limbs on to the roof.
