Hey ya'll. This is my cousins and mine first year showing. At our ranch we have 3 cows to work with. We can put halters on all of them. Although there is one who will charge. With this being my first year, I was wondering how to deal with her? Also with another one, when you try walking her she tries to lay down or she tends to jump. Is this common? How should I deal with it? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks. - Jessica

Try Tieing them up. If you don't tie them at all, start ASAP first for about 30 mins for a few time a days a for a few days then start tie them up for long periods of time everyday. then after doing this after thhey have been tie for a time untie them and walk them if they acted up tie them back up, if they act good you can put them back in there stall, after your done with (washing, burshing, drying, ect) you can put them back in there stall.

 sorry if some stuff is misworded an mis-spelled, but I hope you get what I'm saying if you need more help or don't understand what I typed just send me a PM. GOOD LUCK!!! So what type of cattle do yall show??? :D

Where in Florida do you live? The cow that charges I would just forget about her. It's not worth you or some else getting hurt over. The one that tries to lie down or jump just keep walking her everyday and tie her up everyday. While she is tied brush her a lot. When you walk her and she tried to lie down yank up on her halter and don't let her lie down. I had a steer that liked to lie down while walking him and he got over it. Good Luck!!! Victoria

tie em up for a couple hours a day. give them lots of tlc. I wouldn't mess with the charger if it was my 1st year. Good luck to you!

I had a maine bull calf last that I showed as a bull. But when I was breaking him if you walked on the other side of where he was tied he would try to get to you even if he was tied up. LIL crazy. He got over that but that wasn't the end of him, loading him in the trail, he'd see a trail and go nuts, get to the trail he wasn't going in. Lets just say he never got over that and after the April show last year he wen't to the paster to raise cluby's off of. I think I wouldn't deal with that heifer. Not starting out unless you have someone who knowns what to do to get her broke. I think myself I'd have to thinks about again a lone time, if I knew she could win everything maybe I'd try it. GOOD LUCK :)

For the charging calf it depends. Some charge as if they want to hurt you and other just want to play with you ifthey are by themselves. I had a steer that used to charge because he wanted to play with me if thats the case just when ou first go to catch her bring a friend and a big stick sometimes just a tap on the nose will keep them off and quiet them down if not ship her.

I agree we have a bull calf that tries to lay down after you have him tied up just yank down on the halter take your show stick and put it under it tail when it goes to laydown. when the other one goes to jumping put your hand on her nose and it sould slow her down if not just tap her nose with ur hand
