We have a new addition to the herd she is SAV Blackcap May 0524 Registration #16697983, I really think this cow is going to make a great addition to the herd. Some of our favorite calves this past year were out of Pioneer so when the opportunity to pick up a really nice production age daughter we just couldn't resist. It will be interesting to see how this cow progresses within our herd.

SAV Blackcap May 6097 Dam of 0524

SAV Blackcap May 7238 Grand Dam of 0524

SAV Premier 0096 Flush Brother to 0524

We just got her off the trailer today I haven't had time to get any photos of her as yet but I will.

We start calving about the second week of October we get a few late Sept calves and I honestly think the intense heat will cause a few to come early. Our cattle do fine but then the majority of he herd was bred and raised here. We look for cows And use bulls that are slick haired or slick out real fast when it starts getting hot which is usually the end of April. Oh and they moo with a slow drawl lol. We have brought cattle in from Montana the trick is to give them time to acclimate. The humidity is just hard on the cattle and the-people raising them but again we just have to get use to it.

Here they were spoiled last week with low humidity and 80-85. This week it's low 90s with humidity and they are having to readjust. But I guess it's the bad flies this year that so far have made the heat tough on them.
Any particular Bulls you've had success with in their offspring being slick and heat tolerant? Summers can be nasty here and it's been something I focus on more and more all the time

Thanks for the info Gizmom

Is she gonna be on display for the tour next month? After they get thru looking at our junk I might have to follow them over and take a look?

Is she pregnant? if so to whom?

Scott,

I have seen your cattle so I can attest to the fact that you don't have any junk, driving by your place the past few weeks I have been seeing some really nice looking heifers out in the front pen. I am so not ready for the tour at this point I know we are going to put some cattle on display but really haven't given any though as to which ones yet. I imagine that the cattle on display will be cattle that we bred and raised not something that we purchased, however the decision has not been made as yet. I hope you will come with them after they leave your place we are going to be serving them lunch and your welcome to join us.

Gizmom,

I was at the sale, she's awesome. Where you their? Did Kurt or Tom do the bidding for you? I seem to get out bid alot via phone bids its nice to know they go to a real farm...... That Dispersal was Sad situation, my wife didn't even know the owners (just had meet them once before at a Champion Hill Sale) and she cried when the Howard guy spoke before the sale. In this area of the country (Ohio Valley, Ky/Tn) we are losing/lost 4-5 Major Angus breeders to Dispersal's and many of the small Angus breeders are livid over the Angus Headquarters shake up/losing Chuck Grove....

Sorry I haven't responded until now on your questions. I was scrolling trying to catch up with what has been going on and saw it for the first time tonight. We were not at the sale we had gone up to look at the cattle a couple weeks prior to the sale. We met the owner it truly is a very sad situation for the family. I left his farm knowing we would be bidding on some cattle and praying that they all sold so high we couldn't get one. We bid over the phone and were lucky that some friends from the Montgomery Alabama area were at the sale, they hauled her to their place and we picked her up a couple days later. She had a big knot on her hock that really worried us but it went down in a few days so all was good. She sold as bred with an AI bull or either the natural service bull. We palpated her last Tuesday and the best we can say is she is safe about 5 months. She was Ai'd to SAV Registry 2831 on 12/7/13 then pasture exposed to SAV Campbell 0262 from 12/8/13 to 6/14/14 I'm thinking it will be a Campbell calf. We saw the bull when we were there and really liked him they had some very nice cattle. I really like the disposition on the cow just settled right in we haven't put her out with the herd, we keep them separated to make sure we don't have any health issues before mixing new cows into the herd.

Gizmom,

That SAV Campbell was very good ( my neighbor got out bid on him and now regrets not going higher) I really like your cow you bought at the sale. I went to buy one of those SAV Blackbirds but also got out bid. That place was standing room only. I bid on 3-4 head and went to 5-6k and didn't come close to one. Thanks for the info on Coleman. You must have an Impressive here. Where do you sale at?

We sell mostly private treaty we do take some each year to the southeast classic it is a very good sale where we know there will be quality top to bottom. We also participate in some of the Alabama Angus sponsored sales they do a very good job with their sales. We like everyone else that raise cattle try to improve on our herd each year, sometimes we get it right.
