I am currently looking at building a new hay/equipment barn. Looking at probably 80 x 100 x 16 all steel. I have prices of around $100k for the open arena type and $75k for a 50 x 100 with 16 ft lean tos off each side. Think they are both speced at 1:12 roof pitch with no sides. Has anyone built one similar lately? Do those prices sound reasonable? Located in Stigler, OK.

I have never built or priced one. But I know all the hay barns around here are taller than that. They most often have 3x4x8 big squares stacked 6 high. Top of the stack is 18 feet plus some head room. How high do you plan to stack? I would bet going higher would be the cheapest way to get more storage.

We built a 60'x60' several years ago. It's all steel and 16' tall with a 4/12 pitch. 3 walls are sheeted and it has 20' lean too with 2/12 pitch across the front and back. 20'x40' across front (gable end) and wraps around for 20'x80' across the back. It'll hold 300 4x6 bales stacked 3 high. I could stack 4 high but that gets a little hairy with my equipment. I was quoted $90k to build another one like it 2 years ago. I'll get some pics if your interested in seeing them.

Thanks Lucky, yes I would love some pictures. I was worried about that 1:12 pitch angle due to snow.

Dave I purchase all my hay and it is typically 5x5 bales, that would put me 3 high. My tractor cant stack any higher than that.

I just got finish building a 48x60x16 with 10 foot wraparound porch and 10'X40' loft down one side and bathroom. Insulated with metal inside and out. $150,000.00

These aren't very good, I'll try get some better ones in a day or two. I was looking back and 2 years ago we had a 50x75x12 animal barn built and the metal guys charged us $4 a foot labor to build it. I had concrete done and started an account for them at metal place for materials.

This is 50x75 they charged $4 a foot labor to build. Think total building was $50k. It's 1/2 concrete 1/2 dirt floor. Sorry for bad pics. I never think to take pics then take terrible ones. My camera roll is all work pics or disasters lolScreenshot_20251121_171344_Gallery.jpg

We buy all our hay also and built this barn to hold 5x5 bales. Our supplier swapped to a 4x6 baler the year after we built the barn. I can stack two bales on top of each other and stack them 4 high with the skid steer but it's hairy. We feed 250-275 a year so it's not worth the trouble.

I think that number is pretty fair especially if that is all in installed and including concrete footers. I assume you would have to have the level pad already completed? I wouldn’t necessarily be concerned on the 1:12 with engineered steel and wouldn’t do more than a 2:12 given the span. You are more likely to have issues with wind than snow in your area and pitch will increase that shear load.
