We have had 3 new calves for the fall/winter calving season by our LBW Sim Angus bull and out of our mix of cows. We had one brindle white face heifer out of a longhorn braford cow, a smokey baldy bull calf out of a charloais cross cow and a black baldy heifer out of a commercial sim angus cow (all of the cows also had a bit of brahma influence in the past as you can tell from ear size). In the pics you will also see another large brindle animal, he's our bulldog that decided he should come out in the pasture today and check things out and the baldy heifer decided she should buddy up with himbaldy heifer nov 2025 with momma.jpgbrindle heifer nov 2025 horned cow momma.jpgsarge and bald face heifer 11 2025.jpgsmokey bull calf 2 nov 2025.jpg

Love the brindle wf heifer..... I bet your calves are alot happier than the one we had born last night... 24 degrees with the wind chill in the low-mid teens.... momma taking good care of it... got her tagged today... Only have 7 more to go for the fall group...

Nice looking bunch, @Stonewall Joe . I especially like the bwf heifer.

that brindle heifer is probably the prettiest calf we've had in a long time. You're right about happy, the weather here has been warm but it's raining and colder this morning

Thanks, most of that bull's calves have been black white face or mottle faced calves, born small and good growers as they progress. A few have been solib black out of solid mommas but there's usually a little white on the face. The smokey calves mother has given us a smoke before as well but usually black with a white face but that cream gene can be hardto cover up, she is a smoke as well, her calves really grow and are heavy. The brindle cow's mother is the only cow that has actually had colored calves by him. She's getting a little age on her now but she pops out a good calf every year. My wife loves her because she will come up and eat from your hand. She has had a black WF, a red WF, a red brindle Mott and this year's brindle. We sold the bull a month ago because we now have his daughters in the herd so I'm going to change things up with another similar bull. Hated to get rid of him, he was big and pretty, really easy to handle, threw LBW calves, never had to pull one and had all black babies, mostly white faced except with the old longhorn cross cow, but it was time to make a change

Thank you, we're hoping the rest show up soon
I’ve come to like Simmental cattle. We’ve had two registered purebred Simmental bulls. A solid black and a red white face. The black bull was not good disposition at all. He wasn’t flighty acting, he would just come at you. The red white face was very docile and one of my favorite bulls I’ve ever had. I’m not saying that to throw shade at black cattle at all, there’s plenty of docile black Simmentals out there that’s just the individual bull that we had.
Anyways both bulls put out some good calves. I’ve retained one daughter of each.
I like the frame and growth that Simmentals put on Angus and Hereford type cow’s calves when crossed.
I would reckon that your cows being BrahmanX have some frame to them, which is something I really appreciate about BrahmanX, and Brahman cattle is that they haven’t been moderating frame size for the last 3 decades like most other breeds.
I’d say a SimAngus bull would work pretty well on Brahman influenced cattle.
Otherwise I’m a believer in using a purebred Simmental on British breed cows, because of the added growth and performance.
