Just finished buying a larger tractor and heavier duty truck - both within the last two weeks. I never expected to be so difficult to find equipment that was within my price range but still in decent shape.

Managed to get a '99 Ford F250 standard trans with the 7.3 engine:

Also bought a Ford 6710 tractor with front end loader:

There seemed to be an abundance of "junk", but I scoured three states to find something I felt decent. Anyone else had similar troubles?

Cypress maybe both of them will work wonders for ya. When I bought my Massey, I had been looking for a couple of years. The lady was selling some of those pick-up type ATVs the wife took me to see. The Massey was sitting out back. She had bought a new tractor and that one was put out to pasture. Asked her what she wanted and bought it. It took me a day to get it all working. The AC doesn't work and I only have one set of back wheels. Oh well. 125 HP is more than I needed but the price was perfect.

Truck looks well cared for, the tractor looks good - looks like new tires as well. Not trying to be nosy but what is that tower looking thing in the background just over the passenger side of the truck?

Jo,

Not nosy at all - That metal "structure" is a very old sugar cane "unloader" that my wife's great grandfather used.

Angus/Brangus

Your right about the hay. I fed the good stuff earlier in the winter. They now get the outside hay - and ryegrass.

Well, since this gent is from La. I would guess it is a crane for hoisting sugar cane. Just a guess though.

Did you find the truck at a dealership or from the owner? Many years ago we were looking for a good used truck and we would call as soon as the ad hit and it would already be sold. Some of the people said they had gotten phone calls at 4 and 5am. I suppose it was dealers. We got lucky and finally found one.

This last truck we bought we had to buy new because they wanted so much for the used ones it just didn't make sense to buy used (which is what we always did).

GOOD used stuff seems way too expensive to me when you consider how dealers will deal on new machines. Reliability is worth a whole lot to me. I am assuredly NOT a skilled mechanic, so that's a factor in my choice.
Annual cost of ownership is balanced against productivity. You don't have to buy Cadillacs or pay $700 for the deluxe stereo in the tractor cab, but there have to be some production targets and you have to have the machines to meet those targets.
Remember, very successful grain farmers have quarter million dollar combines they run 20 days a year. Cotton pickers are in the same league. Make your investment produce, be it new or used. If a tractor is sitting, waiting for an unobtainable frammis plate on the 3 good days you have to make quality hay--you are screwed. Low quality hay = low milk, low calf wt., economic troubles. If you want to play the game, ante up. If you have assets that someone else might want to buy, you can't get hurt too badly.
And the payments you have will enforce discipline on the rest of your game.
That was a rant, wasn't it. Check my tag line. And don't ask me how I know.

Nice equipment, I would like to have the truck in a super cab and the tractor as is. Heck I would love to have the hay as is, tough hay season around here!

It's great to get new good old stuff huh? Wish you well with it but I hope you did not pay for a 7.3 liter because all indications are that it is a Triton V8 gas motor.

It looks like it says Powerstoke above the V8 emblem but I could be wrong. They put the badges there for a year or two instead of on the doors if I'm not mistaken.

It's the powerstroke, 7.3. You can really feel the turbo kick in.

And I did fill it up with no problems, Aplus, ;-) but almost had a stroke filling the powerstroke. That fuel tank must tap into Opec's reserve!

The 99' Model Super Duty's had the Power Stroke emblem on the front fenders instead of the doors. At least the first one's produced did.

Thank yall for clearing that up. By the time I get around to buying a truck most of the emblems have fallen off.
