I needed to plant a field this fall but it was mud so I was wondering if I should plant just fescue ad cinnamon clover by itself or if I should plant fescue Cinnamon clover and oats. What would you plant?

You need to plant your butt in the house for recoup time. It's too wet to plant now, and we are supposed to get some "significant" winter type weather this coming weekend... and it is supposed to be more in the "southern" than the northern parts of Va..... and no I don't think that you are going to be released to go doing contractor work for the state.

Your wife will have your head if you cause problems and have a relapse and she has to do more "taking care of you".....

I would only plant a neutral endophyte type fescue and I would go ahead and mix in the oats and clover; for first cutting once it is established. The clover won't do much right off if the early growth gets tall, but might put some nitrogen back into the soil.

Take it easy Jules! I am just now feeling back after having my appendix removed in late October. Just take things slow and steady...don't want to herniate anything!

For me, and I'm just a little south of you...but I have had tremendous luck with Ladino white clover. I frost seed in Feb and it usually does great!

Where you are, do you plan on seeding fescue in the spring? It is hit or miss here...with summers so hot it may not make it here...so I am forced to wait till fall...same situation as you...fields too wet this year.

Take care of yourself!

Tim

Thanks Tim yeah I'm taking it easy.. I rarely plant fescue in the spring but does best when drilled then. I plant ladino alot but really like cinnamon seems to last longer. I hope for it to take well if not I'll drill more in fall. I have fields with weeds I didn't get to plant oats that are really a pain to get planted when wet field has no drain so those problematic fields I'm planting in fescue and clover permanently so I don't have this issue again.
