What do all of you ranchers think about this. His statement that he has ranched the land for over a 100 years then he is the owner of it and does not recognize that the BLM controls federal land. He says the state controls it. I think he is wrong and we should all live within the letter of the law. Also his daughter in law states they were chasing baby cows with a helicopter. Where did she come from. Any one familiar with cows knows we call the young animals calves. Also will the American citizens be better off when the militias over throw our government and take charge. What will they replace our justice system with. Will they have a government that is based on the constitution or one based on who has the most guns. Will we have militia leaders that become warlords staking out their territory and declaring the law as they see fit. I hope not but it might be better to know the devil we have and not one we know nothing about. My family here in East Texas lost over three hundred acres to the Sabine River Authority so people could catch big bass and Dallas could have green lawns.

Seems the rancher is trying to use the "ignorance" rule or the "I didn't know"....But I think too everyone should use these various videos as a primer on what gov't can do when they want. The scary part I heard on one news report was that one of the "Federal boys" told one of rancher militia" "I'm on your side but this is my job and I have to do it"......almost sounds like BHO has those boys right where he want's them. They know better but they'll still do it !!!!!!

With or without compensation?

They got paid. Probably not what you thought it was worth but you always get paid. Texas law requires "just compensation"...that # is always debatable.

Yes we got paid but not enough to buy improved pasture like we had. They pay what every their appraisers say it is worth. If you do not agree they put the money in to an escrow account with the county. You have to sue to get what you think it is worth. There is no future income used in the basis of the value, just what like sales in the area was. Also if any remainder of land that is left then they think that because of the proximity to the lake the land is worth more because they enhanced the value they subtract that from the appraised value and that is what is offered.

I like them to take my land. I've always been paid more than its worth and I don't have to pay taxes on it when they take it so its almost like being paid twice.

I don't know the laws out there but assuming he owned the grazing rights and owned the water rights it puzzles me why he would be obligated to pay anything to BLM if they weren't doing what they were supposed to be doing. However, I've always thought the feds owned over 70% of the land west of the Mississippi and the BLM only allowed grazing and use of the federal lands under a contractual basis.

Whether Bundy is right of wrong I think the feds handled it terribly and showed just what idiots they have become to be.

Hurley go to the middle of Austin pick out a young person and ask them what they would call a baby cow. She was not just addressing cattle people but the American public. We all no just how smart a majority of them are. Iluvherfords posted about the Hage family. Hage vs United States of America. All of us should take a look at this case. Hage family won after years of litigation. The father and mother of this family was dead before they won. There troubles also started in 1993.

Ordinarily they'll just file on your, it goes to condemnation court before a tribunal of your peers and they decide what just compensation is. Had a power line cross our place a few years ago. Ended up doing just that...did have to hire an attorney but came out very good. Paid for the right of way plus an adjustment for how it affected the remainder of the land as well as the market value of the house.

The government still hasn't paid the Hage family. The son figured that he was going to go broke paying lawyers to fight the government so he went to law school and became his own lawyer.

It's a screwy deal no matter how you look at it
The whole water rights deal looks like there was some bottom dealing over the last 100 some odd years
Whether Bundy was right or wrong the whole endangered species act was just BS to force him and the other 50+ families out.

I'm with Bundy just because of the ESA ,the lesser prairie chicken, wolf, minnow, owl, turtle, sage grouse and etc.
The EPA on methane, water pollution, erosion, air quality and etc.

I'd like it derailed before they come after me or my neighbor

I keep reading that Mr. Bundy owes a million dollars in grazing fees (they do not say in fines, penalties, and fees, just fees) which would breakdown to $50,000 a year for the 20 year period he hasn't paid them.

If I've learned one thing here on Cattle Today it's that there is very little money to be made in the cattle business so how in the world is someone to be expected to pay such a high price to run cattle in a barren desert? Makes no sense to me.

From what I can tell that was the point. They were trying to force him out.
They forced 50+ families out, He is the only one that has fought them
The question is why, what are they after ?

Which lake was created?

Lake Fork Reservoir.

Great bass fishing there back in the '80s as I recall. What about these days?

Does any of your property join the lake? Do they allow lakefront homes? Something tells me they didn't back in the old days. We always had a place on Cedar Creek lake. I have great memories as a kid fishing and skiing on that lake.

There is more houses and travel trailers than you can shake a stick at. If you are interested in a home one is for sale in the key addition. There is a private road through my place to it. There are some really good people in this addition. No problem with the people here nor I hope me with them. I was out of pocket a few days ago when a heifer calved she did have trouble and the calve was dead. I had three calls from people in the key calling to let me know that I had a cow having trouble.

I hear Harry Reid is invested with a Chinese company that wants to build a solar power farm there. They are using the excuse of protecting some type of turtle from the cattle.
