I am sure this has been talked about before but i couldnt find a previous thread. I have a steer that i show in FFA. He has green snot coming out of his nose, and is very loose in his stools. No temperature though. I offered him some water and he took a sip and then coughed, but not big hacking coughs. Any thought as to what this might be? Sorry, i dont know much about illnesses in cattle yet. Any info or a link to another page would be much apprerciated.

Here's some pertinant facts you said:

Show steer, FFA
Green Snot
Loose Stools
coughing
Not experienced with illnesses

I'm not sure what you meant by "offering him water". I'm going to assume he has free choice water 24-7.

If it were me, I'd contact the vet. He/ she can teach you about diseases and being a show steer, he/ she can keep you from administering "illegal" drugs.

Just my humble opinion.

If it was a commercial cow out in the pasture, I usually just watch them. If they go lathargic or dehydrated, that's when I move in. Cows are tough.

He does have free choice water in his pen. I had him in the blocking chute this morning when i was bathing him. He hasnt been to a show since march so i dont think it has to do with that.

Update: not eating feed or treats, depressed looking

Get him to a vet...no reason for this to go and get worse.
