At the National Shorthorn Bull Sale earlier this week, a new national record price for a Shorthorn bull was set by Nero Y2K Zee Top Z034 at $75,000. The vendors were Kamillaroi Stud, Calrossy School at Tamworth, NSW, and he was bought by Lyn and John Nitschke of Carlton Stud, Hahndorf, SA, in syndicate with the Hurst family's Lake Hawdon Stud, Robe, SA. The bull is by Broughton Park Millenium T22 out of a Nagol Park Tailor Made female and was Division 1 Champion.
Division 4 and Grand Champion bull was Springwood Station Hercules, bred by SAS Withers of Springwood Station, Wentworth, NSW and sold for $18,000.
The sale resulted in an average of $5,915 and a 76% clearance, a rather good result considering the terribly dry conditions through NSW and southern Qld. There were few commercial breeders present.
Pictured is the top price bull, who was bought with his mother 2 years ago by the school from Keith and Vikki Ridley, Nero Shorthorns, Condobolin NSW, for something like $2000. I think they've got their money back
