If you were going to choose a breed of bull to be TERMINAL sire on each set of cows what would you choose?
1. Commercial Angus cows
2. Black Baldy cows (Hereford X Angus)
3. Balancer cows
4. SimAngus cows
5. Hereford cows
6. Limflex cows
7. Beefmaster or Gert cows
8. Brangus cows
9. GelbviehXHerford cows
10. ShorthornXHerford cows

Please give an opinion in a numerical order so I can collect data effciently. Don't worry about disagreeing with others, just give your own opinion if you have one. Thanks!

If you would...give an opinion on each one...for instance...
1. Hereford Bull
2. Black Gelbvieh Bull
3. Simmental Bull
etc....

if going terminal on all the crossbreeds your talking about then theres no q about it char or beefmaster bull.because those 2 bulls will put weight on the calves.i know some dont like the ear that beefmaster puts on the calves.

beefmaster a maternal breed,,, i aint ever seen one used for terminal """here"""" only breeding up for replacement's

your right about that, they are used to raise momma cows.but think about this the beefmaster sired bull calves can gain weight as fast or faster than the breeds used today.plus they grade just as good as the black hided cattle.if your cows are good the calves are born small an grow like weeds.

What we're working on here is:
AngusXShorthorn with a black Simmental bull
and
SimmentalXShorthorn with a black Angus bull

I still want to try some Braunvieh on my brown/gray 3/4AN-1/4SM cows. Just don't know how bad I'd get slammed on those excellent calves, just because they won't be BLACK.

By all means, feel free to tell me your FAVORITE terminal cross...but I would like your opinions on EACH AND EVERY one I listed. Please.

I'm not asking for your data...I'm asking for your opinion on each one...if I were to give you a herd of each one of those type of cows and tell you to pick a terminal sire FOR EACH what would you pick for each one.

Gelbvieh (RED) on those with mostly british breeding
Red Angus on those with mostly continental breeding

6. Hereford
7. Charolais
8. Hereford
9. Angus
10. Charolais

Your question asks for a terminal sire which to me implies breeding crossbred cows for a three way cross. Some of the breeds you list would depend on what they are crossed with. As with any breeding program, select the best quality bulls you can. As the old saying goes "There are more differences within each breed than there are between the breeds. -- Here's my opinion without knowing more or seeing the cows.

1. Gelbvieh
2. Gelbvieh
3. Angus
4. Hereford
5. Angus or blk Balancer
6. Charolais
7. Angus on BM, Hereford on Gert
8. Charolais
9. Angus
10. Gelbvieh
11. Angus
12. Angus
