I came home last night to find a large package of Bounty paper towells sitting on top of my desk and on this was plastered a lot of advertising for the Wounded Warrior Project and there with his $hit eating grin was the face of a fella I know very well - not once but twice did they have his picture. I was floored. You see I know this fella quite well and learned first hand how he became a hero defending our country. How, during his six month stint as a tech sergeant overseeing the inventory of firearms at Balad(?) AFB in Bagdad he was blown up by mortar rounds four times (or five depending on the day of the week) in less than 3 weeks. How the air force refused to properly provide him medical attention and just stuck his eye back into his head and gave him a band aid and put him back on the line to fight off the hordes of insurgents that were attacking the perimeter. I also know first hand how during his six month deployment he went on 180 sniper missions outside the wire and how his spotter shot himself because the pressure was too great for him to endure. I've actually seen the knife he used to cut an insurgent's finger off during interrogation because he was also assigned to intelligence when he wasn't subbed out to the army or the delta forces. I've personally seen where the scars from the scrapnel is supposed to be but my poor eye sight just wouldn't allow me to make out the scars themselves but I'm sure they were there. His wife told us how they filed charges against a doctor because the doctor told him there was nothing wrong with him and he needed to go back to work but he refused. Its just terrible how the Air Force has treated this young man. I mean it not his fault they can't find any medical records verifying any of these injuries thus depriving him of his four (or five) purple hearts he should have leaving him unable to get the free purple heart car tag for his car. I can vouch that his injuries are so terrible that when he goes out in public he HAS to walk with a cane and has a bad limp. Of course maybe this isn't that bad since when he not in public his motor functions greatly increase and he doesn't need his cane so he is able to go hunting and do other things without that burdendsome cane. But after folowing the link that Bounty gave on their package I see where he also saved Dick Cheney's life! This guy never ceases to amaze me! What is wrong with the american press when we have such a hero in our midst yet you don't even hear anything about this! Its just unbelievable when we turn our backs on a hero like this and leave him to make due on handouts from the church, the wouded warrior project and a his retirement pension along with what little money he can earn buy selling government surplus he somehow came across. Of course some of it is really neat stuff. Thermal imagery and night vision. Stuff so neat the my adopted son's unit didn't even have access to it when he served in Iraq. I can only hope he gets his just rewards. Maybe it will come in the form of royalties when they film the next Jason Bourne film using his tale as the story line. It should be very exciting and spellbinding. Of course, his humbleness may prevent him from doing this because afterall, he neglected to tell the WWP about the fifth time he was blown up.

I heard a bit of controversy about this. Thanks for adding clarity. I heard a Geico (sp? auto insurance) advert on the radio yesterday, saying they would donate x% $$ to this wounded warrior project. Thought that was uniquely strange

I can't beleive this saga hasn't been dealt with yet.
On the selling equipment side or the fabricated story side. I know not
All records are available for public view but how has he not been charged with stolen valor
And had his military benefits snatched away from his sorry ass.
And he went to Tavares hs. Too close to home for me. I cod
Look up some of his old hs buddies and see what the back story is

We had a guy in our county making the same kind of claims and had people sucked into his imaginary world for a while. One of the local television stations was looking into him and couldn't confirm anything he was saying. His story now is that if it didn't actually happen then he must be suffering from a delusional disorder caused by his military service.

I'd like to hear Dick Cheney's side of the story but I guess I'll have to wait till the movie comes out. Sure hope its in 3D. :D

This guy will eventually cross the line and some vets will take it into their own hands. He will really need medical care after that.

Don't know anything about this person, but I have heard something almost exactly the same from someone I've met. ;-)

As far as i'm concerned, he's already crossed the line. As easy as it is to verify military service, I'm always amazed at the number of people that think they can get away with this kind of crap.

I know of a guy who claimed to have been a SEAL.
A vets club at a university found out about it, checked it out, (he wasn't) and said they would take care of it.
I haven't heard anymore about it and not sure I want to.

The court has ruled that it is not illegal to lie about such things. Free speech and all of that.

Wonder why nobody ever lies about being a clerk?
If everyone that claimed to be a Seal really was, the Navy would have to build a lot more ships just to have enough to haul them all around on.

I could care less about what he tells the public because his stories are so unbelievable they are just that. Besides, the supreme court has said its alright to lie about stuff like this. What gets me has been his ability to convince our gov't and others he needs a big check for the rest of his life and has been successful in getting it. There are those who truly need the help and he is taking the resources from the deserving. But he isn't the lone ranger. My wife's cousin joined the service after a judge gave him the choice of military service or prison. He ended up in Kuwait rather than the prison in Reidsville. In Kuwait he made a heroic spike of the volleyball and came down wrong on his knee and required surgery. He is now disabled after some orthoscopic knee surgery and is home sitting on the porch doing drugs to ease his "pains". Stuff like this degrades the memories and sacrifices made by the little known heroes that quietly server our country. People like this young man who doesn't even have a bush or a tree.

I guess I should have done more when I served six terms as POTUS.

We had a man in Tyler Texas pass himself off as a Tuskegee Airmen and a veteran of Word War II. He was so good at it they named the new veterans home here in his honor. He told a good story and had medals that his wife said was purchased on ebay. Everyone is still wondering what to do about it. Old man and in bad health.

Jogeephus-

I like reading what you wrote here and on other threads, and at the risk of offending your sensibilities (I don't think I will), have you thought of using a blank line between your paragraphs? My eyes cross when I read a big story like that..

I liked your earlier picture better, just saying.....

I never figured the fact of being in combat was worth talking about. Those who have been there don't want to hear it and those that havent wouldn't believe you anyhow.

Ditto.
Jogeephus is usually a pretty sensible fellow. But then he seems to have , shall we say, spells.
Has anybody checked the phase of the moon?

BTW HD, I'm sure I will like your next picture better. The one that doesn't look like a wolfman or something.

What really disturbs me so much about all these frauds is that those who are "representing" a "cause" do a huge disservice to the legitimate "causes" out there. Wounded Warriors is a very good outfit, and when enough people learn of all the frauds, it jades one's heart. And folks learn that the man in the picture is a fake, then the "cause" must be fake.
