I like to work alone but I think this guy will work out for me. He's a little young and I had to outfit him with the horse and saddle and the good dog but I think he'll work out okay and maybe someday give me a little return on the investment... He did know enough to head out and gather his own country instead of following me around. :D

Great pic. I can't hardly wait until my son is old enough to do stuff like this with me. My daughter enjoys going with me now but the older she gets, the less she seems interested.

Nice to see a young man with britches that fit, hat turned properly, nice shirt on and footwear that doesn't have the laces dragging behind him. I'd say you are doing a fine job and your investment will pay off handsomely. :tiphat:

Raise a child up in the way that he should go, and when is older he will not depart from it. Proverbs something. Anybody know the verse number.

I agree as well.

(i wonder how many of us here started out kinda like that too?)
I wish I had listen more and learned more way back then and never wandered from it, but--oh well.

You all will have some sweet memories. Our kids are all young adults now. I love hearing them talk about the things they did when they were kids. You have a lot to look forward to.

Double Ditto to that!

That is a great picture. Be patient with him and he will teach you as much as you will teach him.

The trouble with those type of hands is about 15 years from now when you are starting to get to the point where you really do need their help..... they up and leave. Mine is now about a thousand miles away in Montana.

That would be him. :D He's still MY go-to when I know I'm going to have a rough day. He's not fancy but he has so much cow that he just does it on his own.
I kicked everything into the easiest pasture that I have the day before and kicked a few mean ones out of the way to get it set up where we could have a nice day. Right out of the gate I sent him up into the hardest stuff in that pasture and sent the best dog with him and I took off across the "flat" part. When we met back up a half hour later he had about twenty head and I had two that we didn't need.

Thank you all for your kind responses. I know I may come off as a little arrogant or a know-it-all on here but I'm actually pretty quiet. Writing has always been my biggest voice. I don't post many pics because I'm not pridefull to the point where I feel a need to share part of my life unless it's to help someone...That being said...
I am D*** proud of my son... I'll brag on him every chance I get. He's eight years old and that day he did a man's job and it was a tough job at that. he came out scratched up by branches with a smile on his face. He's a natural horseman, better than I ever was at his age, and is athletic enough that he'll be a better hand than I've ever been.
I like to think that I'm doing good with him and his sister and it's like sunshine to hear that others agree. It's easy to get caught up in little tiny behavioral issues and miss the total goodness of the kid... He will be a good man wherever he decides to take his life.

Sounds like you better be looking for a new job soon because he's gonna take yours.
You've got lots to be proud of.

The time you spend with your children is the best investment you will ever make.
