This calf was born this morning , just thought I would share him with you all . ;-) That is my blackberry torch on his head, and this is a new one for us ,, ever ,, :tiphat:

Great looking little calf HD! Hope the rest of the calving season goes as well! :tiphat:

Come on you guys be nice!....... Have you read what her stocking cap says!

Believe me she doesn't need the dynamite she can hold her own with any man when it comes to managing cattle.

I do like the hat though....and the shiney suit!

Kudos to you Wanda for pulling that off and everything else in the last 24 hours off by yourself.

what breed is he? I bet his mom is sore after getting that head out

Mom is fine , this is her 3rd calf and she is a 4 year old . I did give her a hand because of the snow storm (btw, in a pasture with her standing there) she had a ton of room but it was really cold and she was getting tired and it was 7 am I had had a heck of a night/week and I just wanted the calf out .

BTW she is sired by a Judd Ranch bull if any one is curious . ;-)

Sheeez HD, he's a whopper! Glad all went well and it was not a breech, can you imagine trying to right that one :o

That explains alot of it right there. Great bulls they have.. and big calvers. I have always been a fan of their bulls. Nice looking one you got there!!

Wow, that's something else!... I bet he'll look dandy if he gets the groceries!

Kinda happened on a odd-coincidence day for me.. yesterday was a year ago I had to put down the cow I had that liked making 140 lb calves.

Show us a pic of the pair!

The 'baby' can't stand on his own yet , he can lean on the wall but can't quite get up on his own but he sure tries hard .I have him in a calf box where it is warm . He had better make it as I have already put 60 dollars worth of colostrum in him and he still needs one more feeding. Each feeding, he drinks 6 pints(3 litres) and could probably drink more .

His mom had decided to steal a twin for now , at least I know she won't dry up before I can reunite them .

It was funny as when he finally came out and she turned around to go to him she stopped , looked at me, looked down at her calf and looked at me again . It was like she was saying to me "how the heck am I supposed to feed that monstrosity ?? " :???:

It is supposed to finally warm up ,so hopefully calving is a little more enjoyable .

He will make it - those calves that are a bit bigger just take a little longer sometimes

Be safe and be happy

My dear lady,

The one thing I have learned about animals, cold weather and calving/lambing is as follows:

Without a good woman around this place I would well and truly be up the creek without a paddle!

We are ready for spring here as well - minus 30 yesterday and minus 24 this morning. Add in some wind and it has been miserable.

I would really like to open the barn doors and clean it out but it is too cold for the baby "woolly maggots" - Wendy has told me she will kick my azzz if I open them before she says it is OK to do so.

Well done

Bez

Hopefully he will make it up and be a nice steer. I hope you don't have many more cows bred to that bull. I can't believe a cow could have such a large calf. You folks up north have some very large calves. We only run 40 head but having to pull a calf is very rare since we went to Angus bulls. I lost a bunch of cows and calves using a Charolais bull 25 years ago, the calves just came to big. He's sure is a pretty thing though.
