Got a new bred cow I bought this last weekend. Hauled her home Tuesday. Today she has mucus coming out of her . She is due middle of March.

Think she might have had a miscarriage? Or any other suggestions?

Don;t look. If she slips it there isn;t a thing you can do about it so why worry.

She was A.I.'d so the date should be pretty accurate if not it would be even longer before she was ran with the clean up bull. Got her from a trusted source that runs registered herd with very good records.

But that was first thing my wife thought today when she checked the cows that she was about to calve.

Also wife said another cow tried to ride her today.

I may be off the track here but I look at the mucus, if the mucus (plug) doesn't break and doesn't stick to her hide then she is on her way to calve.
Just my two bits worth. DMc

Don't you suppose if she had slipped a 5 month calf that the discharge would be bloody, rather than clear mucus?

I've seen bred cows with mucus before - I don't think I'd automatically assume she's slipped the calf. And the other cows trying to ride her can easily be from the fact that she's new.

Thanks for the input! I did not see no blood, wife did not mention blood I will have to ask her. The Mucus I personally saw was stuck on her tail and was a long thick Very snow white piece.

And I agree on the riding last time we bought a bred heifer i was nervous because everything was trying to ride her and it was as you stated just that she was new.

One of my son's heifers would have mucus discharge each time we hauled her. She waited until her due date to calve. I wouldn't worry about it.
