I have had an odd thing happening the last couple of days. I cannot get to Cattle Today via my mozilla browser. I gives me an error "unable to make connection" but when I use the microsoft browser works every time. Any ideas why google can't get into CT?

My brother talked me into downloading that service on my computer. I am not sure what made me take it off. It was either- set in my ways or I didn't like the service, I haven't decided yet. But, I have gone back to the same browser you did. I also had the Thunderbird mail. It's gone too.

I did not like the Thunderbird mail. But will not use anyother browser than Mozilla. Not sure about the CT problem with Mozilla. Maybe PM Macon...is is a big help with problems like that.

We use nothing but FireFox and Thunderbird. Like anything else new, they take a little getting used to and tweaking. The free extensions give you things that Explorer just wishes it had. And they are much more secure.

I can't think of a reason you can get cattletoday.com on one browser but not the other. Can you get http://ranchers.net? It's on the same server.

Since you are getting a "Cannot Connect" the timeout might be set less on FireFox, but I would hope our server is not slow enough for that to be a problem. We're running a Dell server with Dual Intel Xeon 2.4 Ghz Processors - Dual 73GB/SCSI/HDs - 2GB RAM connected to the Internet through 13 Gigabit Ethernet links from six separate backbone providers.

If anybody else is having connection problems, let me know!

WOW! I don't know what any of that means, but I really like Cattle Today and appreciate the Q & A Board!!! Thanks for all that you do!

I have the same time out problem, with Mozilla Firefox, but when I do I have it with other sites too, not just CT. It happens on ranchers.net, and others at the same time. I just give it a little time and it will normally start working right on its own.

Macon, what is some hints to tweak it.

welp! i be gol durn! i have more problems with internet explorer than firefox. i think firefox is faster But there are things i don't like about it as well as IE. i do have more timeout problems with IE than firefox.

Don't tell anybody I told you, but...

If you want to increase this default timeout in FireFox from 30 seconds to whatever, type about:config in the box where you type URLs. Go down until you find network.http.connect.timeout and double click on it and enter however many seconds you want. However, if a site doesn't come up in 30 seconds it probably isn't going to come up.

There a bunch of things you can configure in about:config, but don't call me if you screw it up! ;-)

Hey Bif, Heard this a couple days ago. A nerd is someone whose life has been taken over by computers. A geek is someone whose life has been taken over by computers- And he likes it that way. ;-)

I just tried the ranchers.net and got the same error, "The connection was refused when attempting to connect to http://www.ranchers.net"

I have really liked the Mozilla Firefox as it does not allow nearly as many "bugs" in and no pop ups. It is working for my other bookmarked sites but just started this problem with CT this week. When using the other browser my Spyware Stormer, AdAware and Spybot have to work harder. When doing the scans after using the Firefox rarely are there more than 1 or 2 "bugs" with the other one there were 11 this morning after using it to get to cattle today for the past couple of days.

Firefox is faster because it doesn't have all of the "Microsoft crud", it is also more secure because it is a 'simpler' system without oll of the "Microsoft crud" Everyone should have it on their home computers.

Macon- that is one bad @ss server! Thanks!
