I've been researching possible adverse effects of mouse urine/feces in hay and haven't come up with much. Other than the feed being unpalatable, is there any correlation between eating soiled hay and sickness/disease in cattle?

(We have a two year old oat hay pile and they have made nests in it.)

I don't know of any problems. I am constantly feeding bales that had mice in them and haven't seen anything as of yet. I hope now that I said that, something doesn't come to bite me in the butt.

Maybe, just maybe this is where how we've come up with a bunch of "Mad Cows"? I know I wouldn't be very happy finding them in my Cheerios!

You really think so?? Urine and manure from mice :lol2: Mice in oat hay pretty much go hand in hand.
