I found 112 on Friday, 50 on Saturday, and 34 on Sunday. I only looked about an hour each day. I didn't have time to look today, but the cold weather has really slowed them down.

Ohhhh - I'm jeolous. We used to get them every spring on our farm in Kansas. We would catch people sneek in on the backside to pick them.
Supposed to have them out here, but never find them. OOOH they are sooo good! We get tons of meadow mushrooms in the fall. Very good - almost exactly like regular white button mushrooms from the store - but FREE!

OK, I have a stupid question, so let me see if I have this straight. Is a morel the same thing as a mushroom, or not? It's way to cold here yet for mushrooms. Best time to find them in this area is in summer after a thunderstorm.

Yes, Morrels are a mushroom - one of the top rated for taste. They used to grow the same time as the "May Apples" (weed in the woods) when we lived in Kansas. We have May Apples, but no Morrels here.

Thank you! Another thing about the climate here is usually dry. It takes a good rain on a warm summer day to bring the mushrooms out.

Jeanne, Get you some spores of them and scatter them. I have found several places via Google that you can get them from.

The whole plant jeanne except the apple. Used to dig the roots and dry the tops when i was a kid. Don't no what they use them for, just knew i could make a few bucks selling them to the root buyer.

around here you have better luck getting someone's credit card number rather than have them tell you where the morrels are... I actually saw 2 of them at our place last year, and it's the first time I've seen them, I let them be so they can spread a bit

we used to live in a little mining town at about 5000 ft, and indeed it was usually in may, around mothers day that you'd find them, mostly in deciduous forests of aspen, etc

Around our place we have a pretty large mushroom, the cap is about 4-5", and 1" thick.. those are delicious and very meaty.. I'll have to take a picture of one, I don't know what they're called

Was a good weekend for mushrooms. I hunted 2 hours Friday and found 215 of the 6 inch size, beautiful yellows. Got 100 in an hour Saturday, but only found 15 in 10 minutes today before I had to leave. Probably hunted a total of 10 hours, off and on, and have around 650, so far. I haven't hunted on my farm, yet. Leaving that to my aunt and uncle because they can't walk much and they can drive up to each patch. Hope they aren't finished before next weekend
