Folks, I thought it was just me and the new rake. Just bought a new, 12 wheel rake and used it for the first time three weeks ago. Had all the trouble you folks talk about and then some.
The width at the discharge end is not narrow enough. I don't have a megamouth baler but I do have hay savers on it. Still lose hay on the edges because the windrow is too wide. Hay was really thick, sometimes when it was cut it wouldn't even fall over so the 12 wheel is too much rake for thick hay (IMO?). Second, I adjusted the width in because of the thick hay and that makes the windrow even wider - no good. Then the fences kept jumping out and grabbing the rake on the outside of the field. Then I'm zoning out listening to the radio in the A/C of my new tractor (new to me) and the hay balls up at the discharge.
Anyway, got about 22 acres of a 35 acre hay field put up and considering how dry its been I think it was a banner crop. Wound up with seventy two 5X6'rs of Bohia/Coastal mix. Tractor worked good, baler worked good, everything is good.
