Thanks Nesi. If I ever get a bit more time I intend to post some pictures on your thread - front pasture cattle. You have some real nice ones in there as well! That heifer calf is very thick - not very tall, but very wide and deep. She is on the keep list for this year. Her sire is a crossbred (*gasp*) bull that we use. His sire was Angus & his dam was just a commercial cow (mostly Angus with some Sim and possibly something else) He comes from a cousin of my husbands. His dam was a commercial show cow and did lots of winning. She was never treated special at all, when it came time for a show they would just go out to the pasture and collect her and dump her back in the pasture after the show was over. He is at least 7/8's Angus and we use him to hopefully create more cows like his dam - the jury is still out on whether that will work or not. Personally I don't find him to be anything special - he's got a big clunky head and I find him to be heavier in the front end than the back. But he makes nice steer calves & the heifers are all big, deep bodied calves. This is a picture from earlier this summer. His first daughters that we kept will calve this next spring. Have about 6 calves from this year picked out to keep as replacements.
