More bull

A reminder that bulls can be deadly: Accelerated Genetics employee Alan Lovstad recently passed away from head injuries sustained April 11 when he was injured by a bull at the cooperative’s facility in Westby, Wis.

You have to figure that this guy was used to working with bulls and one still got him.

Yeah, I guess we will never really know what happened as nobody was around. He was just going to worm some. They found only the bull and him in the pen. They said the bull just walked away after they opened the gate to let him out like nothing ever happened. I had been around his bulls before and they never exhibited aggressive behaviours. Then again this is exactly why they say NEVER trust them.

Too many people lose sight of the fact that this is an animal.
It can and will harm you if it feels threatened. Seems like a lot of people on here are bottle feeding a calf or two - this is a road to disaster if children are involved and not taught that this is NOT a pet. And for goodness sake - don't rub on its head !!!!
Of course, I'm sure that a number of people are harmed by dogs and cats they've had for years.

working around them like he did he may have let his gaurd down or got careless just long enough too suffer the consequence.cattle are aways knocking each other around they see you your no different in their mind they think you ought to be able to handle a good smacking

Bulls are dangerously unpredictable. You never know when one will turn on you. If you have to work with a bull, carry a big stick and in case that doesn't do the trick it is nice to have a medium to large bore handgun in a holster on your body that is easy to get to. I try to have someone helping me when handling bulls.

That facility is 10 minutes up the road from our place. An employee had to be flown to La Crosse a few months before the last incident after being mauled.

Makes me wonder if they don't have proper safety procedures in place or if they aren't being followed or if the business of handling AI bulls is simply that dangerous.

I bet OSHA is breathing down their necks now.

It's dangerous work. Some of those bulls are bad outlaws . Was it a dairy bull?

That's what I was fixin' to say badaxe.. it's a dangerous job, and bulls tend to be crabby being collected anyway. Let's face it, that's not a "natural" environment for a breeding bull!

And yes I know.. a bull can kill you. So can a cow, or a horse, or a Dodge.. etc. etc.

The more bulls are handled, the meaner they tend to get - especially if that handling involves chutes, probes, etc. Just my thoughts.
