Montana is participating in the "paint the state" campaign for anti-meth messages...the 17 year old daughter and her cousin decided to give her a try!! Was wondering if anyone else out there was doing the same thing!!

daughter and her cousin painted the side of this old house (with the owners permission, of course ;-) )...it sits right across from the schools here in town and anyone driving by can see!! I am amazed at how many other kids also took part!! It is a contest and the kids have a chance at winning up to $3000!!! Some of the others I have seen are simply amazing!! Lots of effort and thought went into these projects!! Hopefully, this will get a message across to the kids out there who may be thinking of trying meth!! Keep your fingers crossed!!!

That's good.

There is a church close by and the preacher has his pasture across from the schools. He has a sign up in his pasture directly across from where the kids drive out of the parking lot where he displays religous messages. They have to see it - hope it does some good.

These signs and posters are all over the state- some are really unique and eyecatching...

I saw one at a 3 way intersection the other day that has 2 toilets sitting in front of a huge poster that says "Keep out of the crapper- Don't use meth- Not even Once"....

They have a website that you can look at all of the entrants in each county...some of them hit ya pretty hard, some use religious themes and some are a little on the more comical side!!!

ranchwife,

That is a good project. I wonder how many states have the paint the state program ? That dang meth is really taking over arround here. And is getting worse everyday.

I took a ton truck to a transmission shop last summer to have it worked on. Little did i know that the owner of the business was just out of prison for saleing meth. They wound up totatly screwing the transmission up in the truck. I wound up sueing them in small claims cort and won. But have not gotten a dime out of them. I talked to a lawyer and he advised me more or less to just forget about it. That i would probably just spend alot more money and never get a dime out of the scumbag.

it's taking over everywhere...in a lot of places...there's not much even being done about it...they take away our moonshine likes it's so bad, then don't try to stop some people from making meth...I think making moonshine would be a lot better than making meth

I agree with you % 100. I really think more could be done about meth and other drugs if our goverment wanted to. But i beleave the real motivator keeping meth and other drugs going strong is money. And you can better bet that there are people from the very top to the bottom who has their hands in the cookie jar when it comes to being crooked.

one of the worst things about meth is the way it is creeping into the life of small towns!!! I don't know about where the rest of you are, but here in our little town, most folks have "blinders" on...."Meth? Not here...not in our little town...this is something that affects big cities...not 'mayberry, usa' "...how very wrong they are!! Also, once a building has been used to manufacture meth, it should (by all means) be TORN DOWN!!! Bozeman has had it's share of troubles with owners of known meth labs selling those buildings to unsuspecting buyers.....one family recently bought a small trailer to live in til they can build their new home...the woman has suffered 3 miscarriages and their 4 year old daughter has been hospitalized numerous times with different pulmonary illnesses!!! You simply cannot slap a coat of paint on the walls of a meth house and call it "good"!!!

If your state is not participating in this "paint the state" program, then I urge you to talk with your kids' school and see what you can do!! It really is a great way for kids to learn the hazards of meth!! Amazing how many users of meth have NO idea what ingredients are used to manufacture meth.....Good Lord....LYE??!! BATTERY ACID!!! And to think that they are putting this in their bodies!! How very sad!! :(

ranchwife,

Your right, most people think this is happening everywhere else but in their own back yard. My daughter who is 23 is on meth. He mother and i divorced when she was about 2 years old. I done the best i could to stay in her life and be the best father that i could under the circumstances. And it kills me that she is on meth and that i can not do anything about it. The sad part of it is her Mother is the one who got her started on the stuff.

It is just unreal at what this drug does to people. It is more addictive than most drugs from what i understand. And just tring it one time is enough to hook a person.

Just like you said. It ruins any dewelling that was used to make the stuff in. People who have to rent house's or appartments are at a high risk of being exposed to this stuff. And most young people have to start out renting.

And these druggies can care less about how they hurt people. They do it in alot of different ways. Indirect ways. Just like the one who tore my turck up. I learned afterwards that he has done that to about everyone who uses his business. And has been sued time and time again. The law does not do a thing about it. Thats bs

Stepper,

I had to take a drug class in college for my major - about umpteen years ago. The professor said the country will never get rid of the drug problem because the money that is confiscated is being used to fund the police that are chasing the druggies. So basically, it is a good source of revenue for the states and they want the money.

Thats not exactly true.

////////////////////////

You can make Meth from household chemicals and over the counter cold meds bought in just about any grocerystore. Its not even difficult. You can make it in your bathtube Kitchen or even with portable labs in the trunk of your car.

Making it creates a very distinct odor that sort of takes over an area. This is one of the reasons its more prevelant in rural areas than urban. More open spaces and less people to smell and recognize the odor.

Oklahoma passed a law requiring these cold meds to have to be dispensed by pharmacist. This cut back on the Meth production considerably. Many states have since passsed the same law.

What's not exactly true about it?
Let me use OK turnpikes as an example.
The majority of time for troopers is spent at the pay booths on the turnpikes. They profile for two things, drugs and illegals. In both cases the veh and monies found are forfeited to the state. I, myself, was put on the dirt 4 times while they conducted searchs for contraband. Always with the excuse that it's mandated due to 9-11 and terrorists. BS, they are looking for any excuse to impound and confiscate. They never had a reason other than I am a single occupant traveling between 2 hotspots with a reason that doesn't jive for them.
What I received for this excellent public safety coverage was a> the contents of the pick-up camper spilled onto the floor.
(imagine how long it takes to sort out and recontain wire nuts, emt fittings, plumbing parts, etc.)
b> "star" fractures in the fiberglass camper from the "tapping" they did with their 6 D cell flash lights checking for false walls.
The first time I didn't mind so much. For the good of the whole and all that. BUT I travelled this road every week and the 2,3rd and 4th time it became enough irritation I purchased a pike pass. Never was stopped again. In the following 3 years not one contact. Same person, basically the same vehicles, same route. Yeah, tell me they aren't working the system.
And just cause I'm on a roll.
How come we put up with our public servants presenting a thuggy image? Blacked out windows, black clothes, BIG black vehicles.

Well Im not going to comment on your personal experience, because I know nothing about it or the reasons you might have been stopped and we would get nowhere..

But since you brought up the Oklahoma turnpikes. The TPA pays a fee to have the troopers on the turnpike. The TPA pays for the gas and everything else. Just like if your kids highschool hired a police officer to perforn security for a dance; the one paying the bill gets to decide where enforcement is needed. Being the TPA makes its overly enormous payday from toll fees, it makes perfect sense they want the troopers at the gates.

When I said not exactly I was referring to your statement along the lines of the money being used to fund the police and thats why they dont stop it. The money being used to fund the police is not exaclty true.

Further, thats like saying the vet doesnt want to cure your animal because it would put him out of business.

None of which has anything to do with you getting stopped by the state troopers.

Im sorry you had a bad experience in the Great State of Oklahoma. I hope it doesnt happen again.

If a car or motorhome is seized and sold do they turn the funds back to the TPA?

No, but the state troopers dont neccessarily get it either. Its a long process with lots of paperwork and there arent any Law Enforcement Agencies getting rich off of it.

The funds go into the DOJ's asset forfieture fund and are then distributed to Crime Prevention and Victim Assistance programs. Not to Law Enforcement Agencies to do what they wish. Many Community Watch and School system DARE programs are funded through the forfieture fund.
