Recap of Minnesota British White Sale.
As I walked through parking lot to the sale arena, I was a little surprised to see license plates from Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska,
Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. I went to the sale with no intention of buying. I have no interest in raising "registered" cattle. The one thing that struck me is you would be hard pressed to find more calm and gentle cattle in any breed.
About 35 head sold and none, including the young bulls, were anything other than calm, none were even close to being high headed. I'll give a couple examples of how gentle.
Lot #25 sold for $1750
RLC Farms Rose dob 5/13/08 confirmed pg
sire: RLC Farms Nitro
It took 2 men, in a good way, to push Rose into and out of the sale ring.
They stated she comes when called from the pasture and loves to be scratched and rubbed.
From what I saw I believed them.
Lot 13 was the days high seller at $2800
B&B Nellie 82z dob 5/15/12 bw 73 ww 620 confirmed pg
sire: B&B Oppie 23U
Lot 12 sold for $2700
B&B Karen 7z dob 3/23/12 bw 76 ww 559 confirmed pg Karen was sired by B&B Old Jules 23T
Lot 5 sold for $1550
Briarstone Allison 5/27/13
sire: Thistle Hill Mack
To me this was the most memorable sale of the day.
A 5 month old calf lead into the ring by one of the cutest little girls around, about 6 yrs old.
I use the term "lead" loosely as there was slack in the lead rope to the halter, it was more like followed.
I don't think the heifer calf or the little girl took more than 2 steps during the entire bidding.
Just standing the whole time in the ring with slack in the lead rope. Both the calf and girl were genuinely adorable.
Lot 2 sold for $2000
RLC Farms Willow dob 6/13/12 confirmed pg
sire: RLC Farms Nitro
I believe I heard the comment, "Does anyone need a boat anchor?"
To watch a You Tube Video of how gentle these cattle are just google, "british white nitro"
And up will pop a couple of videos of the RLC Farms Nitro bull with cows and one with his owner.
My take away thoughts:
1. Perhaps ideal cattle for any hobby farm and with 70-80 lb bws and 500-600+ ww a pretty good production breed to boot.
2. I don't know much about "eared" cattle, but with their sweet disposition, I would think F1 British White cows could make excellent mothers for anyone concerned about temperment.
3. The prices certainly were not out of line and I may have to reconsider 'white' cattle.
