i was having a discussion with a neighbor and he was telling me that i could give my nursing calves a MLV shot at branding time. (my cows havent had a MLV shot in previous years) i was telling him that i couldnt do that cause there is a chance for abortions from the MLV vaccination since my cows havent been vaccinated with a mlv. he replied saying that since my cows arent bred at the time of vaccination and wont be bred for 2 more weeks that there would be no such problem. so is my neighbor right in what he is saying????

As long as they aren;t bred it isn;t a problem. Why not give the cows MLV at the same time as the calves. Removes any furhter worrys in the future.

thanks for the answer. right now im on a killed virus and plan on going to a mlv next year. i dont have any worries as i never gave my calves a mlv. just a discussion we were having.
