Just wanted to know if anyone has any experience with mixing WDDG's or Solubles/corn syrup with wheat straw or corn stalks? If so how'd it go and is there an easy way to mix it without a vertical mixer or mixer wagon.
Some time ago I thought I had heard of someone using a bale processor and blowing layers of corn stalks while spraying each layer with corn syrup from the ethanol plant.
Thanks in advance

Sounds pretty labor intensive to me and probably a lot of waste. I doubt you could evenmix the stuff in a horizontal mixer wagon....would have to have a vertical mixer to cut and mix. You're right on the fringe of trying to feed a TMR so you'll need feed lanes, troughs or something to feed on. Don't know how big your operation is but typically these things can only be justified with larger operations.

I question how good of a practice layering would be. The cows would be more likely to sort the stalks/straw out and go for the good stuff. With a mixer wagon you will have a far more consistent mix.

At the one yard the CCDS is in a 10,000 gallon vertical tank and the CCDS is pumped into the the feed wagon after the ground cornstalks are added. The guy down the road just dumps the CCDS into a sloped dike, and then dumps the ground cornstalks in and mixes it with the payloader. Seems to mix a bit better but a bit more time spent.

What exactly are you trying to do with it?

There have been people stockpiling WDGS in the summer time when its cheap. Mix straw, stalks, hay, etc in with it so you can make it into a silage pile type product. Get enough dry matter in there so you can drive on it. You can run it all through a mixer wagon and ear corn elevator and then shove it up. One guy did it that way....PITA, or a quite a few people just use a tractor loader and grab a bucket or two and mix it as they shove it up. Trial and error you will learn pretty quick. www.beef.unl.edu should have some info about stockpiling WDGS

The other line of thought some people around here have is just pile it. For the price you can "eat" a little spoilage and still be money ahead.
