:?: Who has a good way to mix your own feed economically??? Anyone ever use a cement mixer??
Any other ideas??? I have a ration and it is hard to get it mixed consistantly (mainly leave out the molasses about every other trip). I have also seen the mixing boxes that you can make....do these work??
Not sure I can save any money mixing my own but, I can mix smaller batches than buying a ton at a time.

We use a cement mixer for small amounts of feed. For bulk mixes we have a feed mixer. Have also done it in a big wheelbarrow. If you are having trouble with molases try thinning it out (if liquid form) or using the powdered stuff.

What I really meant to say in my original post is that the feed dealer I was buying from is not consistent in mixing the ration. That is why I am attempting to mix my own. Good to hear that a cement mixer mixes the feed well. We will not be feeding more than 4 at a time so I should be able to mix enough for a week in no time at all.

Mixing for just a few head never worked well for us. I also had a problem with inconsistancy in feed. I did notify the mill and the retailer. but I ended up switching to a different feed from another mill. I've been on two different reasoanbly priced feeds for the last 4 years they have kept them consistant. These guys that like a reputation know that they cant afford to be sloppy. If you wish to keep buying mixed feed you oughta just look for another feed mills version of the same type feed. Maybe one that has a good reputation amoung the show cattle folk. We dont stick with crappy feed.
 
Cement mixer works great for mixing feed. when mixing your feed get powdered molasses and then when it comes time to mix it just put it in water and get it to where you want it. i wouldnt mix enough feed for the whole week. maybe a day or two at most to keep it as fresh as possible. i am haveing all my feed for all my aniamls being mixed in hesston, ks and then they deliver it to me in bags or bulk
