I am getting ready to turn my cows out on a field of Millet, they have been on good bahia pasture for weeks now, ?? is will there still be a high risk of bloat from the millet.

You are only abour 60 miles south of me but it sounds like your millit is way ahead of mine. Mine won't be ready for another 3 to 4 weeks. As for blote, I don't know. I plan to cut mine for hay. It has no fence around it.
Good Luck.

Thanks Bama, I got some rain at the right time I guess. I put out 6 ton of chicken liter and it rained good 2 days in a row and it's over 1 1/2 ft tall now.

I am finishing up the fencing this week, if my arms hold up. Those T-post drivers will whip your butt after putting in over 100 a day.

I planted my millit in a patch that I have grown corn for several years and put out 60 unites of N with it. It sort of looks yellow and only about 3 inches tall. I guess I need some chicken litter. We just don't have any local chicken houses.

I planted my millet a week from last saturday. Even though I have gotten some rain, the low temps seem to be holding it back dramatically.

Need some warm sun!

I planted mine back in late March but it is still growing slow. we will see what it does in July.

Mike, do you have any trouble with bloat when you turn out the cows on the millet.

None. Pearl millet, that is. Can't say about the other varieties.

Only other one I have ever planted was "Browntop" and didn't have problems with that either.

I don't leave them in it all day either. They tend to crap on it, and lay on it, leaving less desirable grazing.
