A September poll by the Pew Initiative on Food and Biotechnology found that 64 percent of respondents were uncomfortable with animal cloning. A December poll by the University of Maryland found that the same percentage would buy, or consider buying, such food if the government said it was safe.

Dun, it is hard to believe that many people trust the government.

True, but I can easily believe that without the media stirring the pot that most people don;t really care.

Didn't I just hear that the govt lifted the ban it had on farmers who had cloned animals that before they couldn't sell them for meat, but now they can. If you think about it, would the meat or milk be any different, cant see how.

Voluntary? With all the bad feedback that these farmers have had with doing the cloning, backed by the govt, and then not being able to ship the milk or sell the animal, my guess is that there will be alot of volunteers.

Apparently there is some genetic drift in those cloned cows. I was watching a program the other night about a dairy farmer who had one of his best cows cloned. He says that even though teh cloned cow looks like the original, her milk production is far less than what he was getting off the original cow.

Exactly, my thinking is even though cloning is available to some degree, they will never be able to recreate an original, and make it the same.
