Quite a bit here. My community is really pretty good in this department but there are some that have not taken the hand up and have settled for a handout and these people are rarely helped. Recently we were asked by a druggie whose drug use resulted in some major health problems if we could give him some money to buy food. This guy had taken government loans to go to college only to drop most courses to receive a refund and he spent eight years partying and drugging with nothing to show for it but a pile of debt owed to the taxpayer who he will never re-pay. At first I was reluctant but decided maybe he had turned his life around so rather than giving him food my wife and I filled his house full of food and told him we would call him when our garden came in and he could help himself. Garden is in and invitation has been given but we haven't heard a peep out of him since. Maybe he quit eating. On a brighter note, we have also helped another family who clearly fell on hard times far out of their control. These are great people and will only allow us to help them so much. They are thankful and occasionally the lady drops some really nice thank you desserts and government staples by the house. Thanks to our knowing who to talk to we got a mountain of medical debt lifted off their shoulders and they are now getting on their feet again - oh and they are making good use of the garden. I don't mind helping people who cannot help themselves but I refuse to help those who can but don't.
