Only in Memphis Tenn. could this happen, a woman was shot an killed when she resisted arrest an began shooting at the police.
They had an arrest warrant for dealing drugs an prostitution.
She was a grandmother 92 years old.
Memphis is the second worst city for crime in the nation.

I can beleve that Memphis is a bad city ,when you have
bars on the pop machines out side of Wall mart. I'ts time
to get out. I will never go back.

Call me what you will. Racist whatever.......

But the towns with the highest crime rates always have the highest concentrations of blacks.

Why is that?

Some people really would call that racist...but I call it the truth...facts are facts...and for your question about why is that? Well, I have no idea, but you can bet "they" have an answer to it, and in that answer, it's the white southern people's fault somehow or another...like always

Last year the city bought several harley davidson motor cycles for the police dept. On his first day out with the bike the cop stopped for a cup of coffee. He parked off the street beside an alley, when he returned the bike was stripped to the frame, the engine, trans, wheels an all the bells an whistles were gone. I live 50 miles west of memphis an thats too close.

I thought that happened in Atlanta GA. She shot three out of three officers. She was the only one that died.

Its been my observation, when there is no traditional family, you have more problems with people - regardless of race. The breakdown of the family seems to be more prevelent in black society than in any other. Of course, those from black multifathered families will blame this on the white man breaking up the family during slavery. For whites living in the same fashion - I know of no excuse.

The story I read, in last Sunday's Tennessean paper said it occured in Atlanta. The Cops raided the house, and the old woman shot them when they kicked in the door.

Yeah, if you read the cnn.com link listed by Wewild, it says this shooting occured in the roughest neighborhood in Ga. Some homeless guy who hangs out in front of a convenience store in the neighborhood was quoted as saying about the area "You don't let anyone disrespect your door".

I've spent a fair amount of time in Memphis (not the best neighborhoods either) and never had any trouble. East St. Louis, now there's a dangerous place. I won't even exit the IH in that town ever again.

If you want to try an interesting area try the Wayside Dr. McCarty St. Port of Houston area. I wouldn't drive thru there in an Abrams Main Battle Tank.Z

Awh, why pick on that area. You have a target rich environment in Houston you could include!

Crime has a lot more to do with urban poverty and hopelessness than it does with race.

Why do you think this is the case?

If you think it is because blacks are somehow not as intelligent, moral, or hard-working as whites, then you are a racist.

If you deny that the history of people of African descent has played a role in their economic and social status in this country, then you are ignorant.

If you deny that racism still remains a potent force in our culture - even if progress is being made - then you are moderately clueless. Just look at the big discrimination case the USDA lost a few years ago.

Why don't you just answer your own question so we know where you stand? I'll reserve the term racist until then, but by the way you posed the question, I have a hunch. Prove me wrong.

Someone else brought up East St. Louis. If you want to learn about the conditions in East St. Louis, I recommend the first chapter of Jonathon Kozol's book about American schools titled Savage Inequalities.

So I'm racist, what's your point?

1. I answered a question posed by MikeC. Why are you asking me what my point is? I don't remember asking you anything.

2. But, since you seem to be proud of your social disease and have interjected yourself here, let me congratulate you for your honesty in admitting to one of your faults.

At least you're more honest than many of the members here who continually post racist rants and then spend a great deal of time vigorously denying that they are racists.

Good for you! I hope your parents are proud.

I have no desire to prove or disprove anything you care to believe or not believe. Honestly.

There is no such thing as a totally unbiased person pretending to be absolutely non-racist. There are only different degrees of racism.

Have a hunch. Who cares?

By the way, I bet I have as many or more friends of color that I could call on at anytime as anyone here.

Sounds like some would like to condone crime because the perpetrators are poor.

Maybe that you could explain this to the parents of the 13 year old girl who was gang raped and murdered here a while back. Bet they will feel lots better.

It's not about proving or disproving anything. Were you just asking a rhetorical question in your original post? I was simply looking for an answer.

We agree here. I grew up in a racist culture. It has certainly affected my thinking and feelings. The question is how much an individual will choose to get a grip on themselves and fight those tendencies.

Some people (and I am NOT necessarily insinuating you) are simply too weak-minded to do so.

Have a hunch. Who cares?

Well, when you start off with something to the effect of "call me a racist if you want.....", what kind of hunch do you think most people will have?

By the way, I bet I have as many or more friends of color that I could call on at anytime as anyone here.

Excuse me if I'm not impressed with this old saw. If I had a dollar for everytime I heard someone justifying racist thoughts or actions by using the, "but I have lots of (insert here: Mexican, Asian, Black, Indian) friends", I'd be a very rich man.

Sounds like some would like to condone crime because the perpetrators are poor.

I don't condone crime. I just happen to find economic explanations for crime a much more satisfying explanation than the color of someone's skin.

Maybe that you could explain this to the parents of the 13 year old girl who was gang raped and murdered here a while back. Bet they will feel lots better.

You mean that girl north of Baghdad? The one those soldiers who are on trial raped (and then killed her family because they witnessed it?).

I wonder what caused those soldiers to do that?
