Memorial Day always makes me think of my Daddy, he retired from the Navy after 20 years 19 of which were sea duty. It is hard to beleive that Dad has been gone for 14 years. My oldest nephew is in the Army and has served three tours in Iraq and Afganastan another nephew is in the Air Force and has completed one tour in Iraq. Today is a day to give thanks for the brave men and women past and present that have served or are still serving to allow us the freedoms that we sometimes take for granted. To any of you folks that chat here on CT that have served Thank You!

We spent our Memorial Day installing new gates. It was a beautiful day hot and dry. We have finished weanng the calves they are for the moment all penned together. Next week we will seperate the bull calves from the heifers and send the steers to the sale barn.

I had a close call when I was running to the barn to pick up something for the hubby. I am so glad Peppy La Phew didn't decide to spray me.

I've thinking about memorial day a lot today, your post is an example of why. Thanks to all the past and present heroes, which includes all that have served.

Gizmom,
I know what you mean I had one of those run out of a woodpile on Saturday. Sneaky little devil.. :)

Good weekend started my long weekend off by vaccinated and preg checking cows, weaning and weighing calves, spending Memorial Day with friends and family. Now if only we could get a good rain shower this week sometime..

I spent the day burning brush piles......hot work....but not near as hot as our guys have it in Iraq and in the Stan. I want to express a big thank you to all that have served and I also want to remember those that laid down their lives so that we can enjoy the freedomes that we have here in our country.

I especially remembered those that served with me in some very dirty he!! holes that did not return. Here is to you Rod Ringstaff, Specialist, U.S. Army (aka Doc). RIP brother. John Stevens, Specialist, U.S. Army.....RIP brother....I owe you my life. Too bad you left before I could repay you. Satch Baldwin, SGT, U.S. Army....I still have my belt with your blood on it. RIP brother. I hope to see you again at the big muster upstairs.

We calved out 102 calves this year, after various sales we weaned 92. I wanted to get a picture of them all together it does make for a wad of calves. This week we will start sorting into groups, we develop all of the bulls at the house which is about eight miles from the main farm, this keeps the bulls away from all the heifers and makes our lives easier. We have only been doing this for two years, the decision was made after the bulls broke through to the heifer pen at the farm. A big lute bill and a change in management!

Hoss thank you for your service, I can't imagine the bond you build with the men you serve with. The men you listed are true American hero's.

My dad passed away on May 28th 1999 and I still miss him so much, my mother passed away on June 18th 2012 and my only sibling on January 18th 2013. To say the past year has been rough is an understatement. My mother always told me that God wouldn't bring you to it without getting you through it and I have found her to be absolutely right. I have made it through but I sure do miss my family I can't tell you how many times I have picked up the phone to call my sister in the past few months. Mom lived with us so I didn't call her, but I sure do miss her sweet face.

skunks are taking over at the farm, I haven't seen any turkey's lately and am afraid the skunks are getting all the turkey eggs.
