Heard on the News all of the Western U.S. is going to experience a 20 year Mega droute. Anybody heard anything about it ?

Said lake Mead in Arizona is down to 39 % capacity. Along with other water tables in the West.

Better stockpile water and toilet paper. I haven't heard anything about that not a surprise.

We are in a 20-year drought with a few wet years mixed in. It waxes and wanes, but trending on the dry side most years. In 2019 we were about 50% above normal precip and in 2020 a little over half of normal precip. Probably should be managing stock numbers for the dry years and let range forage build up on the wet years.

Wet years lead to fire danger late in the season or over the winter. Dry years the carryover feed gets grazed, probably more than it should. Working on having the calving pastures set up so they all have a full growing season the year prior to calving. Almost have the infrastructure in place to do it.

Doesn't seem to be any drier here than any other year, not since 2011 drought ended anyway.

Timing of what we did get had a lot to do with that. A cooler Summer, frequent small showers (at least till September) kept the grass going. My tanks say we haven’t had rains to fill it in 22 months. It’s several feet below last years level that was barely half full....but they didn’t dry up as they did in 2011.

I offered to help a friend burn off a couple of fields. There was one good weekend, then the winds came up and rain came in. It's been about two weeks and no conditions to burn the fields yet. Probably 4" in the last two weeks off and on, 1/2" at a time usually. Guess we're fortunate!

It seems that the monsoon rains have been really inconsistent for the past several years. We used to count on heavy rain, hail and tornado warnings during Cheyenne Frontier Days the last couple weeks of July, but lately they have been just hot and dry.

We get a couple tenths here, couple tenths there. Just enough to keep grass growing with low grazing pressure. No kind of run off in almost 2 years.

We had decent chances of rain this week now they have cut it way back again. Just getting fog and a little mist.

We need to burn in the worst way! I hate to complain about the rain (and mud!!!) but we're looking at probably not until April. Gotta love those 45 mph KS winds:rolleyes:

TC, have a friend who is a fire captain of a rural fire dept. He told me the most useful tool they have when burning fields is a leaf blower. We got a battery owered EGO from Lowe's. It has a turbo setting, and it will almost blow the thing out of my wife's hand. I actually got it to clean gutters on a rental (with a high reaching attachment) but it will control a fire easily.

What is a droute?
Just a spelling error drought...... spelled phonetically ...... I have always been very careful of spelling things as my grandmother was a teacher so a stickler for proper English.... but some people don't spell as well. I can accept that if they are able to get their point across....

True. After 17 posts, I assumed there was enough context to know what was intended.
