Does anyone know the maximum length of cattle and hay hauler tractor-trailers/18 wheeler semi's in Texas. I'm designing a cattle and hay loading area where they will have to make a u-turn. They will then be loaded with hay (if already stacked nearby), or back up to the loading chute for cattle. I need the maximum length of the rig to determine the turning radius and width of roadbed at the turn around. For standard 69' rigs I found the maximum recommended road width to be 33-35ft for a 180 deg u-turn at the below website.

i might can help with answering that.cattle pots are 48ft long.hay trailers are 48 to 53ft long.so id say the whole rig length is 80ft or less depending on the wheelbase of the tractor.but if you have a turn around of 100 to 125ft.

The max length for a single trailer in Texas used to be 59' not sure if they have made it longer since then or not. We have 46' to 55' cattle trailers. Most important thing when considering how much room you will need is what type of trucks run in your area for the most part. Turning radius of some trucks is 54 degrees and some it is only 23 degrees. Setbacks have a huge advantage in turning radius compared to non setbacks. Kingpin setting will change turning radius also. So many people get caught thinking length is the biggest factor in turning radius when actually it is the degree of cut in the front. My T600 on the 53' will turn much shorter than my friends classic with the 46'. He needs to 2 point the driveway at a ranch we pickup at in SD I can just pull in. He has 230" I'm 235". I forgot to mention my 46' he pulls has a 1' tuck.
