About 8 last p.m. the widest spread I have ever seen was standing in the bar ditch grazing away. I was amazed and in awe.

This has been the worst of droughts. Record temps. Who would have thought I would have seen something like that?

Hopefully he'll live to breed a lot of does improve the herd. Even in drought situations "great" deer develop "great" antlers....just not quite as "great" as they would have been under more normal conditions. Anybody in your area have protein feeders out that you know of??

The deer I am seeing and from the numbers on the counts you can't tell there is a drought. We were in pretty decent shape around here until the last month or so. Its looking like we won't see the effects until next year. Plus, like said above, the number of people feeding protein grows every year.

This one was at the plant, on company property. It is thousands of acres surrounding the lake. No hunting. The deer are more like cattle when it comes to the fear factor. It is not uncommon to see 70 or more on the drive out off of company property.

It is possible that this buck crosses in and out.

Most farmers I know in this area are not permitting feeding. It draws hogs. We have way to many deer anyway.

I am going to check the cheap digital camera and see if I cannot get a pic of this bad boy next time he makes an appearance. Horn hunters will appreciate the mass I am sure.

We checked 2 of the game cameras on Saturday. There were several really nice bucks - great antlers and good body condition. We only saw one doe and fawn though; the fawn was healthly looking but you could tell that doe had been working hard. If she had been a cow her BCS would be around a 4 or may even a 3.

I took. A walk close to where I hunt last weekend ... The oaks In the sloughs have quite a few acorns on them ... I'm putting out protien because it s not much more than corn... Im hoping to get enough rain for the clover ... For the cows as well as deer ...there seems to be plenty of brouse in the clear cuts and places the fires burnt ... I'm still seeing deer tracks at the water troughs...
