For a couple of years I have been wanting to try something different regarding spring grazing.

I have a 6 acre Costal field in front of the barn that has gone dormant since the frost in late October. Today I ran the disk over it lightly to break the top up. I did this for a couple of reasons, 1 to help the seed get contact with the soil and 2 to help the lime I put on 4 months ago work a bit deeper into the soil. After breaking up the field, I broadcast Marshall Ryegrass over the field and then drug the field with a chain harrow. We have about a 60% chance of rain tomorrow.

We will see how this works out. I plan to graze the cows on it in the spring after I pull them off the fescue.
