Fellow CT user Davemk visited Bright Raven Simmental Farm this afternoon. He brought his two daughters and young son. No one leaves here without an introduction to Margo. The three children got to pet her. Not many cows even in a docile herd like mine compare with Margo. She adores little hands petting her big frame. Her big Brown eyes revealing the delight of all the attention.

Dave ask me how I got the name Margonme. I explained it came from my association with my Margo. He ask, "Weren't you Inyati?"

I said, "No. Inyati was a legend. I cannot pretend to stand in his shadow."

Yep we were hoping for pics of the visit. We've seen your mug.

That right there is Margo and Me. She is a sweet girl!!! I have never seen a cow that enjoys people like she does.

I could gentle down one of mine, if I was of a mind to. How does one go about getting the whole herd where you can pet it?

I am around mine everyday. I have a habit of touching each one. Dave can vouch for this, I think I scratched every cow we looked at today. It may surprise Dave but they were a little more nervous than usual because of the three youngsters. I do have a calf I am weaning that is very shy. Dave noticed her. It is a disappointment to me because she is a nice heifer calf. But if she does not settle down, she is gone.

Look forward to seeing pics!

Your Margo is like my Kama.. loves people, when she was a yearling heifer my best friend and his two young girls came over, they only speak mandarin, and their grandmother who was watching them only spoke mandarin as well... Anyhow, I gave Kama a bucket of goodies and the girls (age 4 and 6?) were very excited to pet her.. she was a little cautious of them, because they couldn't help but jump up and down and clap their hands, and since I don't speak mandarin, I couldn't do much about it.. but after a little bit she calmed down.. as did the girls and all was well. Kama is always the first to come say hello to strangers

Margo n Me is how you say it.LOL. Ron your place is awesome and the cattle are also. I will post more tomorrow. I will post a picture of the steer and kids.

Thank you. I had a ball seeing your excitement and watching the kids petting Margo. Interesting that you chose Margo's steer. That was the last calf sired by Spartacus. I was expecting you to chose Ferrari, Mercedes' steer. Ferrari was born 4/6/16. 81 pounds. Both steers can be registered with ASA.

Margo's Calf.
DOB : 5/8/16
283 days after observed bred.
98 pounds at birth!
Bull.
Castrated 7/1/16
First Covexin 8 5/26/16
Second Covexin 8 7/3/16
That includes Clostridium tetani.
Also given tetanus antitoxin at castration.

The ASA will register about anything, very few guidelines to abide by. I toured ASA new building in Bozeman, it's quite the facility complete with work out rooms and showers. You can definitely see where the $3.5+ million was spent.

Not surprising. Bozeman is a nice town. Winters are not as bad as people think.

At most points I'll have one or two that will be gentle enough to pet. The flight zone of most of my cows is about arms length or less, most will step back just enough to be out of reach. I feed mine a little almost every day. When driving them out, I often have to encourage a few of them to walk on out of the lot, by tapping them on the hips with my hand, each time I do I am hoping they don't backfire and kick. My cattle have been very leery of people other than me, and sometimes have run away. Since I have been married, and my wife comes out around them with me quite a bit they are much better to not run when others come around. The younger calves and yearlings are still prone to be somewhat standoffish, when others besides us are around. I know it is risky, but right now, my biggest pet is my Limousin bull, I often times will pet him on his side or his back, never his head or neck though.

Dave: here is that heifer that was running away when your clan approached the weaning pen. She actually did well yesterday.

Now brush her until your arm feels like it is going to fall off. Then do it again the next day. LoL

I will post pictures of my son leading "Carl" the steer later today. I have no Idea where he got the name
Carl. LoL

Please do. I love that name.

One of the scientist I admire:

Carl Linnaeus, also known after his ennoblement as Carl von Linné, was a Swedish botanist, physician, and zoologist, who formalised the modern system of naming organisms called binomial nomenclature.

That steer was only haltered a few times. If you have him leading already, please lend me your secret. Lol.

Actually, I have had about 3 that seemed to lead from the first time I haltered them.
