Corp is releasing water from Gavins Point Dam. Just got done spending 2 weeks on bid for onsite sewer for a rural school. General contractors doing all the dirt work are bidding in the 750k range. Pretty sure I got the job, as it was a DNR complaint, and had to happen in a hurry. Now it's probably not gonna' happen till next year, and they'll shop bids around until they find someone cheap.

The floods they are causing has taken all the sand around here. None to be had, and the project calls for 3500 tons. They are saying that the floods here will be worse than '93, and maybe as bad as '51. The concrete plants and precast plants, that build my septic tanks, say by July 1 they'll be done cuz' of the sand situation. THe water is susposed to stay up till at least mid Aug.
Some roads will be closing if we get a big rain. It's gonna' be a mess.

Feel worse for the farmers on the bottoms. This year it was dry enough for them to get them planted on time, now it's all gonna' drown out. Even if they don't flood the water table will be high. Oh, well, every minute I'm down about something is one minute I ain't happy. gs
 
Lots of people saying around here it is gonna be bad as 93 or 51. Buddy of ours lives about a city block from a railroad track that serves as a secondary levee. He says 8 more feet, it will overtop the tracks and get him. If it doesn't seep through and blow out first. He's bringing a bunch of his goodies out of his garage down here this weekend to store in our barn til the water goes down.

Beautiful corn fields in our area this year, already 2 feet tall, sure hope they don't go under.

Yep, that's about all the dryland could manage around here too.... :lol:
 
Had a guy write a letter to the editor the other day and couldn't figure why the gov. didn't just dig in a pipeline to texas and Arizona from the river and supply you'all with water. He said from Mississippi they didn't even have to cross a mountian range. So if it happens that you're dry and we're flooding you're gonna' get water. Wonder what happens if you're wet and flooding and so are we? Scary thing is, I afraid that the people in the gov. are not much smarter than the letter writer. gs
 
That's no more far fetched than towing icebergs from Antarctica to Saudi Arabia so the arabs can have fresh water.
