Man dies by bull

Bad way to go.
I heard this at the YMCA this morning. Guy said he was crowding the bull to load him. He turned on him, knocked him down and proceeded to push his head into him on the ground. Clearly, he was not a novice. Probably loaded many others the same way but this time it went bad.

Bad news. Cows are no exception either. Loading is always a time I try and stay very aware with an escape route handy. I move my bulls on trailer several times a year.

Very surreal to open this thread this morning. I actually knew Mr. Stephenson. He was actually a big proponent of farm safety in our state. A good man that loved kids.

All the more reason to incorporate a loading chute and a crowd gate into your corral plans.
Exactly the reason I went ahead and spent the extra $$ for that. I'm too old and too slow to get away from 'em anymore and too fat to roll under the bottom rail.
My little walk-in/exit gate not far from the headgate closes from the inside against a cross tie and is spring loaded shut. No latch to mess with--just pull and it's open.

Bigfoor when I read the story my first thought was that those who had not heeded his words in the past will surely believe them now when it comes to safety.

Who knows maybe the good Lord just decided that he would take him home and doing it this way served some purpose.

Sorry for your loss

We lost a very popular ag teacher here a few years ago to a holstien bull that everyone told him was going to kill him someday. He was also the type that preached "safety first" every chance he got. The FFA kids got to watch it happen.
