Making slow progress

Still no electricity and hauling water but making progress when I have time to work on it.

I have a shower, but no toilet yet.
Homemade bed and an air mattress but I promise it's a beats a tent in the back of the pickup.
I have a storage building east of Tulsa with furniture I need to go get but I'm not as far along as I need to be.
Electric should be hooked up this week I hope.
I've got 1700' of water line to run as soon as they get it to the road.
I thought this little weekend place would be easy but it's turned into a big job for one man a day or two at a time






 
You're a trooper! Is the water rural or from a well? Now I understand when you said you slept in your truck :). My husband slept on an air mattress in the barn while we were building the house, "bathed" from a Gott cooler & his outhouse consisted of the nearest tree. I stayed with my folks.
 
Let me know when you head this way to load furniture. I make up for my weak mind with a strong back. If you do it when I'm not real busy I'll even haul some for you and come see the deluxe accommodations.

It makes you appreciate modern convinces for sure.
Until you've did without water, electricity and carried a shovel to do your business in the pasture you don't realize how good we have it.

I guarantee if I decided to build a house here I'm hiring it done.
My carpenter skills aren't what I'm happy with.

I'll need some help for sure.
I've thought I'd call someone local I know to help load but I bet they'd really like to hear from me to come load furniture :D

It started out as a little starter place.
I planned on getting another place or two to go with it, but it guess I've become lazy, I kind of enjoy it like it is without a lot to look after, unless a neighboring place comes available.
I can run 20 maybe 30 head year round or 40 head or a pot of bred cows for 6-8 months, still debating on that.
There is an older cowboy that day works that can look after things while I travel for work so I can leave and not worry.
Lots of fishing and recreation around and met some good people so I'm enjoying it.
I might hang onto this one, but I keep an eye one Dickens co just in case

I misunderstood thought this was a second place for you you need a place to hang your hat when not traveling for work.
 
Nope this the only place I have right now other than a house in Texas I go home to on the weekends to see my kids and lay around on the couch to recuperate, which I do way too much.

That's the truth
If I'd of known then what I know now I'd of never started.
I've learned a lot by trial and error so if I do decide to really build a house I know now how I want things

Keeping heat out is a real problem unless you want to get a big Ac unit and pimp in cold air.
Spray foam and poly Iso helps but stopping it before it ever enters is the key
Saw this and the light came on.
Shade and build under neath


 
Its a monumental undertaking, especially for one person, when time allows.

So far, I think you've done a good job! Clearly you're learning a lot as well. :)

A long ways
Some friends tell me I need to take my kayak and go to the the lake at broken bow, beaver bend I think

 
Beaver's bend is a pretty nice place. Seems like it was just a few years ago, but I guess it's been 14 years since I was last there. Young and broke, we bought one of those cheap foreign made blow up boats that we'd put in and float around the horse shoe river there. The bend is pretty narrow in the middle so didn't have to carry it far to put in again. Caught severe rainbows in that little bend. The bigger browns are on down the main river channel. Had to wage war on the raccoons. Thieving little bandits about stole us blind the first night.

I threatened my wife to take the kids camping there this summer before it got hot, just didn't get it done. Maybe will be able to catch a nice weekend this fall.
 
A good friend said he takes his family every year and rents a cabin for a week.
He said it's great for his kids and an old fat guy too :D
