This kind here:

I have had 3, recently just break I guess, and fall out. Didn't cost me anything but aggrevation. They either don't make them like they used to or something. Anybody using anything they like better? Or a paticular brand that seems to last? I won't trash the store I bought them at, but they only cost a quarter, or .35 cents or so.

I don't know the name of them, but the black ones sold at the John Deere place are way better than those shiny ones.

TSC carries the black ones too, at least the one here does. I've lost count of the cheap ones I've had disappear, only to drop whatever I have hooked up. Yet I keep using them.

I never have problems with them in normal situations like on linkage arms but on my Cat D4D if I use them instead of a bolt on the lower arms on the stick rake they won't stay there, it seems they are too close to the dirt getting pushed and it just undoes them.
Lynch pins in general are just one of those things that mysteriously disappear. I am forever buying another bundle of them. I am sure that archaeologists in the future are going to be trying to solve the mystery of all these funny little pins that they find.

Good tips, I've seen the black ones locally. Never occurred to me, to use a carribiean. I'll give that a shot to.

I have 1 or 2 go when plowing each spring a real pain. I did not know about the black ones. Sometimes the ring breaks off then they fall out. I put tape over them it helps.

I've had them pop open then fall out. But they stay put better then the hairpin type of clip. I'm gauranteed to lose those things whenever I use them. Now I have the lynch pins and have drilled out everything I have that needs one so I can use them. If I don;t have one handy I just use baling wire. I even use them for the tow ball pins on the trucks.

The black ones seem to heavier built as others have metioned. They are alot stiffer to open too, but seem to hold up.

If they're coming undone I'd suspect something is rubbing/catching on them... I've never had one fall out, though I've bent some up pretty good if I overtightened the sway chains or got hung up on a post with an implement

3/8th's bolt and double nut.

I thought about that, I was afraid the threads would get boogered, and I'd be cutting them off all the time. I'll give it a try.

The threads will get boogered is exactly what will happen. If you use this method use a lock nut and don't leave any threads showing on the uphill side. Still it won't be easy getting off.
