Do any of the old timers on here have a liquid feed recipe for bringing cows through the roughest winter days on poor stockpile.

Curious if anyone has made a protein, molasses, mineral type mix before?

I use Mix 30. At work we use QLF. The mix 30 is free choice. The QLF is a different formulation and use in a TMR ration.
I happen to have the feeders, so the Mix 30 is about a wash in price between the liquid and good quality tubs.

Are you close to any bi-products? They work great to fill the nutrition gaps.

Byproducts for us are hard to come by where we are at. We use tubs now but when it gets cold we grain a bit. Thought maybe there was some liquid. Tubs rock but get a bit pricey.

I actually have seen this article in the past. It interest me. Has anyone you know tried it. Today we feed Purina, Kent or Vitalix tubs. Mostly the 25% protein tubs but also some high energy tubs.

Honestly I don’t think they are expensive if you are feeding stockpiled grass. I think they become much more expensive when feeding poor quality hay. The grass is “free” so using it by means of a tub seems economical compared to paying for hay and then still needing a tub supplement.

I don’t know anyone who has made and fed them, I just may try it myself. Ddg would probably work for the protein meal.

There is a company from Ohio that has 1000 lb. Blocks made in the large white bag totes. I think it would be great to be able to make them like this.

Mineral Max I believe.
