I always had used OB lube when AI'ing my cows. Someone told me they use mineral oil because it is less abrasive. Of course there is always natural lubrication. :p I started wondering what other types of lubrication people use and why.

My experience has been the opposite - a good OB lube is way 'slicker', to me than mineral oil - which I have used; even used vegetable oil once when I was out of lube. BUT!!! only for lubing the sleeve for rectal insertion!!!
I would not recommend using mineral oil for insertion of CIDRs or as a 'lube' for calf delivery. Prefer a good methylcellulose-type OB lube, with a little bit of chlorhexidine(Nolvasan) solution dissolved in it.

For almost 40 years I have used no lube when breeding cows. Never had too many problems and very few gloves gave out because of the lack of lube.
