Louisiana Sinkhole on top of a salt dome near an underground storage for 1.5 million barrels of liquid butane.

That, might be a bit louder than fishin with M80s.
Any truth to all this?
“Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack said Thursday he is now concerned the sinkhole is close to a well containing 1.5 million barrels of liquid butane, a highly volatile liquid that turns into a highly flammable vapor upon release. A breach of that well, he said, could be catastrophic.”
Gee--ya think?

Yeah, I know that--not exactly the same hole, but I'm familiar with the Strategic Petroleum Reserves--Back in the day, I worked on rigs drilling the leach well for the Hackberry La and near Freeport Tx salt dome reserves.

(I also saw in person when the Texaco barge rig drilled INTO (by mistake) the Avery Island La salt dome/mine and drained Lake Pegnoir into the mine.)

I just wondered if there is any truth to this "the sky isa falling" news reports I've seen coming out of La news sources. Maybe Ryder knows something more on it.

You wouldn't believe the propane and butane stored in the Salt Dome at Barber's Hill or Moss Hill.
The oil was pulled out of those dome's and makes the world's greatest storage for lt. end's.

That accident was at the Jefferson Island mine not Avery Island.

All I know is from the TV and newspaper and as you can guess that is not much.
150 homes have been evacuated.
They don't really know what is going on until the relief well is drilled. They expect the rig to be moved in and assembled by Friday.
DEQ has called for an updated worst case analysis and that is expected tomorrow, Wed.

People in the area had reported something bubbling up and ground tremors days before the sinkhole.
Will probably take 30 to 40 something days to drill the well.
That is a long time for all the people evacuated to wait not knowing.
