what a weird day--
i was out feeding the chickens after lunchtime and out of the corner of my eye i saw some chickens up on the steps watching something on the porch. it was a big ol' kingsnake! i left him alone as he crawled under the house, hoping the cats wouldnt notice him. if he gets a few eggs under the house, so what. i go and sit donw in the adirondack chair under the magnolia tree and about one minute later this HUGE brown snake comes racing out of this old wooden piece of furniture that i have plants on. i'm like WTF? THEN, this rattlesnake comes moseying around the corner. i'm like what the fig? seriously? is this a joke? *looking around for camera--am i getting punked?* THREE SNAKES IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES!!!

so immediately when i saw the rattlesnake i put the cats inside and the stupid chickens started harassing the rattlesnake. weapon of choice? super long pvc pipe. Idk if the rattlesnake was under the house eating eggs or just passing thru the yard, but it wasnt meant to be. i havent been finding as many eggs lately, probably on account of that bigice brown snake. i assume a rattlesnake will eat eggs..especially ones that are still warm.

its already raining!!

Beefy, that wasn't just a weird day, that was downright creepy! How long did it take you to pick it up and toss it on the fence?

There is something to this hibernation thingy up here that is for sure!

I was wondering why it started raining today and now I know. Thanks.

Watch your ankles they are crawling pretty good right now.

BTW - if your stress tape doesn't get there soon enough brew you up some tea from maypop leaves. This should help.

Beefy, did ya skin it? Would have made a nice mount. Skin and soak in anti freeze and then stretch and staple it down to a board.

I tried that "belly up snake on a fence" thing a couple of weeks ago but still hasn't helped any. Glad it worked for some of yawl.

If that don't work then draw a picture of the sun in the dirt. Draw an X over the sun's face and spit on it.

Beefy, here's one that will draw your anxiety level to the critical level. Found her late this afternoon. Been seeing her trail through the sand but I never figured I'd get the pleasure of actually meeting her.

What kind of snake is that? I bet you all don't go out trapising around the yard much at night.
Fred

Fred, its a cottonmouth. Some say they are calm creatures but to my knowledge they are the only venomous snake in our area that will actually run you. I tossed a little bottle of detergent near her to try and give some perspective as to her size but she took off in some tall grass. I tried to get her back out to the road but she would just make blind strikes at me through the tall grass. I figured a better picture of her wasn't worth the effort cause he flanking moves on me seemed pretty skilled.

Here is picture of another one that struck me last year. Out of panic, revenge, fear or something I painted this one blue so she couldn't do any more sneaking.
