We're looking to bring down some of our BW EPDs on cows. We'd like a bull with 1.5 or lower BW EPD, mid 20's in milk, 5.5 - 6 frame, decent marbling, at least upper 40's for WW and upper 80's for YW.

I really like SAV Bismark, but I'm not sold on his carcass data. I'd maybe use Hoover Dam on some of our cows with lower milk EPDs. We've used Mytty In Focus for heifers and had success there, and I haven't decided if I want to stick to using him exclusively on heifers or breed some cows to him. Anyone have any suggestions on other bulls I haven't thought of?

the only problem with using angus ai sires is there are so many to choose from. bismark is everywhere this year, i have talked to several breeders and almost everyone has a bismark bull or 2 to sell. i would think with all the bulls out there they could be a little more creative in there thinking, i like older more proven sires myself, the bull of the month club is not for me heck i even use a red poll on some cows here,

New Standard?

angusdave - I don't specifically want the flavor of the month, but I'd like AI sires as that's what our customers are after in pedigrees.

3way - who has New Standard?

I like new standard as well!! I plan on using him again this year but also plan on using Hoover dam, trust, efficient, all from abs global.

I apologize his milk is very high. It didn't hurt me cuz I was using a son with a 20 for milk. The old bull is a 38 now

used benett energizer and i am really impressed with his calves going to try mohen's brushpopper next

you know showing 71, maybe i need to focus more on what others are looking for in a pedigree i just use what i have had luck with in the past, and what i like in cattle i breed them like i want to keep all of them.

limftw - have you seen any calves out of consensus 7229?

double v - who has benett energizer?

angusdave - if only it were that simple for us :? . We've kept a few of our own bulls back before and were pleased with the calves, but all our bull buyers want a "known pedigree" to look at, especially on the sires.

thought i was the only one who noticed that 3way, i just called him short coupled but after a second look short ribbed fits him better.

Nothing wrong with that thinking.

The Brushpopper bull is with Accelerated Genetics if your at there website and you like Mytty In Focus look at Ten X and In Focus 4925.

Unfortunatly, that is a true statement for many...Too bad some would pass on a better individual and select one because
of a "known pedigree". Do they not have any confidence in their ability to select animals for traits that they need?
Before some of these known breeders and bulls were known, they were unknown like many of the rest of us.
I also believe you can turn that around by using your own genetics and if you are getting similar results, people will notice.
If someone won't use their own genetics, why would they expect anyone else to?
