Going to sell all my commercial cows and replace them with registered angus. If you have a semi load pm me. Bigger cows 1500-2000 pounders. No low bw Genetics . I have the truck. Rich

You might get lucky but not really the way I would get started. I would be more inclined to go out and buy a few select cows with a bit of age and build up from there a top notch herd rather than buying a truck load of run of the mill cows.

I hope you find a load. Personally I wouldn’t bring them in from very far away. Your climate and forage will be challenging to adapt to for eastern or northern cattle.

Totally agree with previous posts. If you want to accomplish something in the registered world, you need to have a clear plan, and cattle that work for your customers. If you're selling locally, then find a breeder who's producing how and what you want to produce in a similar environment, and hitch your wagon to the best example. Choose wisely. Takes forever to get anywhere if you start in the ditch.

I agree with the posts above. You have to be very selective if and when selecting cattle from another region and environment. The cull rate will be higher. Sellers will tell you that you can move them from their area to anywhere but it doesn't work that way in real life. It is hard to move cattle from another environment too short grass country and have them do well.

I'd suggest using embryos in your commercials. Using them as recips will help you get access to more favorable genetics that you wish to start building from.

If you go to sirebuyer.com under angus embryos, you can see they have a very wide selection of females with good sires. I've seen a few of those ladies first hand. They'd be exactly what you're looking for.

I found a vet that does embryos. What’s the normal cost, process ? Best idea yet . Where can I buy them ?

Buying a load of registered angus isn’t a good idea, unless you go to the ranch and hand pick 20 of them from a large outfit. I know of several farms that started that way, bought 20 bred cows, they hand picked. Like most stated, get cattle that already exists in the kind of program you will have. That doesn’t limit you to just NM. I think you can find functioning cattle for your environment in most of the desert west. Embryos might be ok, but you won’t be producing your own cattle for two years and selling for three. If you contacted a big herd like Thomas out of Baker City Oregon, I’m positive they could hook you up with a load of hand picked bred cows. They run’em big, like what you’re looking for.

If you like SAV Cattle, I'd suggest Scotts https://www.scottanguscattle.com/embryos Ms. Kelly will treat you well and treat you right. They're also on Sirebuyer which I recommend as well. The gentleman who runs that site is a top notch fella.

Embryos are going to run from $300 on up. Shipping. And then the transplant cost. We run about $50 per embryo on that but you'd have to ask your embryologist what their costs are.

Embryos generally come with guarantees. So if you bought 10 embryos and got less than 50% conception, they'll make it right.

Something I forgot last night: you don't want to buy a truckload out of Kentucky and run them to NM. You're at a higher elevation than Denver and could have some PAP issues. Like I stated, look for cattle in the desert west or go the embryo route, you don't want half your new herd dying coming off the truck.
