im new to the whole AI thing as i do nothing but commercial cattle and run my own bull on the herd but i am looking to get one of my show heifers AI'd and need to know what bull would be the best for my heifer. she is just 15 months old and this will be her first calf i am looking to breed her to something black so i get a smokey colored calf cause she is white . i really have no ideal of were to even look for an AI bull so if any body knows of any web sites or what the best bull would be please let me know it dont have to be a bull that has the best show record i really dont care to win in the ring it just has to through babys with good thick muscleing

15 months old I'd say lets me getting her bred. I am assuming by "show heifer", in the way you put it, that she's a club calf. There are MANY clubbie sires out there. AAOK posted some nice links. I would look at the heifers faults and then try to find a bull that fits her nicely. Normally I would say go look at the bull, Denver is a nice time to look at display bulls. However, with this only being one heifer- pictures and other opinions willl most likely work.

Here is another nice link:

http://www.cattle.com < click on AI Sires.

Pretty much every site is going to have almost exactly the same bulls.

well shes not a club calf she is just a heifer off my own commercial herd and she is probably not the most showie heifer but like i said im not really in it to win but just to have fun i have shown alot of heifers before and i shows steers but my heifers in the past have always worked out that by the time they were ready to breed we had just rotated our herd bull and just bred like that but we have a super nice herd bull right now and were not going to get another for a while i really dont know anything about the reg. or the club calf bulls i honestly never even heard of the club calves till about a year ago at a prospect show in polk county . but thanks for all the help and keep the info coming if you would like look at the pics of the heifer there on here under -let me know what you think of this heifer - look at her and then tell me what bull you think i should breed her to that will make up for what she is missing

Don't concern yourself so much about what the bull looks like; find out what traits he passes to his calves. As lilfarmer92 pointed out, try to correct the faults of your heifer.

I went back and looked at your Heifer. She needs more bone, better legs, and some extension up front. The best (most proven) bull for these areas I can think of, plus being a calving ease bull, is the Maine-Anjou bull Witch Dr.

like i said you should breed to a clubbie bull because you will probably get a smokey calf and that would be your best bet if you are planning on showing the calf in prospect show.....the calf will have a cool appearance and add plenty of muscle and bone which is probably what your heifer needs......

easy out will give you a small calf

or ali will be good ones for your heifer

In order to say this, you have to see what the calf actually looks like.

I believe AAOK has given both the most educated and probably the best answer, being that he has gone back and looked at the calf, then selected a bull that will improve on her calf's faults. You must remember, we aren't just breeding to this club bull or that club bull to win the show; the ultimate goal in the pairing is to correct faults in your animal, and to produce a calf that is superior to its parents.
