has anyone tried gallaghers new entry level scales? I need a set of scales but cannot justify expensive set of scales plus I need some that can be easily moved my chute and small alley is a set up and take done setup. Are 23 inch bars wide enough my alley is basically 30 inches wide ? Just looking for input

What model number? Ive used the 610s - but they wouldn't be low end. Had wireless rfid and everything. 23" is quite narrow, but all depends what you have to hook it too. Could likelymodify tbe bars easy enough, but don't weld to anything attached to the load cells.
Its Gallagher w110 scale kit for $900. it says it comes with 23 inch load bars. has anyone made there own platform to fit load bars? if the load bars are 23inchs could I get away with the platform being 28inches?
I want to use it in an alley way setting. I can call Gallagher and get there advice but I am sure they want me to buy there platform. Just would like some actual input from people who use scales.

I made my platform on a set. You might want to get a scale kit with feet and instead of load bars. I had a piece of sheet metal bent and then galvanized. It was for a calf set up and the normal size platforms were to long. I bought the kit from A and A.
On the pan remember that the sides are tapered so it may be wider at the top. 23" is wide enough if the cows can't step on the outside of it. The bottom of your chute is that narrow.

I've made a couple platform setups over time for general weighing. Sometimes I want to weigh a round bale, or horse.. or whatever.
if you are handy you can make whatever platform you need - And then buy a scale kit for like 400 dollars. I have a wooden deck for this one made of 3/4 plywood.

SD thanks for the replies, I was wondering if you had anymore pics of your scale setup. maybe how you attached your feet or your platform or what ever you have. I might build a platform but need it to movable. that's probably the biggest obstacle.

Most of the scale kits come with a threaded piece of plate that the feet screw in to. You weld this to your frame or platform.
Moving can be a pain with all the wires going to the individual load cells.

Yeah it came with small threaded flat bar, but I had welded them to a different frame. So this is just drilled channel, with a piece of drilled bar sandwhiched with bolts and nuts. You have to have 1/2 the load cells free from a load touching them in order for them to work - either by extending them out, or having them spaced under the frame. This way kept the height as low as I could have it, so I can set it in the floor of my chute and clear the headgate doors.
It did leave the nuts sticking up, so I drilled holes in the 3/4" plywood floor I built for it, but that just holds the wood from shifting around. I also attached a couple of squares of plywood that set down in the square spots on the frame, to also hold it in place and stiffen it up. Then I can take the base off independently - weighs 45 lbs, frame likely a bit more than that.
My chute is outside on a cement pad, so I can carry this out and set it in when needed, and then put it back in the shop out of the weather. And use it for other things.
All the wires are tucked up in the channel frame, except for the one that goes to the display.
