Lightning does strike in the same spot twice

New year another tree same spot as last year... When life gives you trees you make firewood

That saying never made sense to me. Electricity takes the path of least resistance, if it took that path once, it's likely to do it again.
 
I had to cut up a 24 inch hollow tree yesterday that lightning hit and set on fire . Of course it took out the fence when it burned down. It was on the back side of property line and no one new it was on fire .
Old timers will not burn fire wood from a tree that was lightning struck.
 
I should clarify... It was not hit by lightning but literally was blown over same week last year as the one piece I left shown in the picture. So I was using that saying as it literally happened same place and time
